Treasure
The interior of the hall was resplendent, and the scent of herbs was a whiff away. Various spiritual herbs were set on a jade platform. Xiaobai chomped on a spiritual herb resembling a radish. He found it so tasty he demanded more of them. Meanwhile, the small divine herb sat atop the platform and shook her head in response to Xiaobai’s request as she was too shy to ask. He kept encouraging her to ask Third Elder for more, making her blush and rendering Yang Tian speechless.
The group had been there for two enjoyable and relaxing days. There was no shortage of spiritual herbs for them to enjoy. Xiaobai proved the point with his bulging belly.
First and Third Elder were annoyed when they entered to see Xiaobai devouring all of the spiritual herbs in sight. After all, having lots of herbs was different to having an infinite supply; they wouldn’t last a year if Xiaobai ate at that rate.
Third Elder curled his lips. “We discussed it with our senior and have permission for you to enter First Ancestral Ground with the princess.”
Yang Tian frowned and grumbled, “I have something else to attend to, so I will hold off on that. I will come back when I am done with my business.”
Third Elder’s eyes almost popped out of his skull. “What?!”
First Ancestral Ground! The birthplace of an herb deity! He said he didn’t want to go?! Amazing! What a youth! Unbelievable!
Yang Tian looked confused. “Is there a problem? I am not strong at the moment. If her assailant recognises her and I die in there, what will we do about her? I should cultivate more before I entire, agreed?”
Third Elder gritted his teeth. “You can’t go in whenever you want! Once the opportunity passes, you have to wait another century!”
First Elder: “He’s right. You don’t need to worry about Princess’ identity.”
First Elder summoned a green bracelet. There were three spherical pearls on it. The pearls were blue, purple and green. He dangled it in front of the divine herb and smiled. “Princess, do you like this?”
The divine herb grabbed her clothing and scanned it. “It’s ugly.”
Ugly?! One of Herb Deities’ Valley’s most precious treasures was ugly?! It was so precious that they never would’ve taken it out if it wasn’t for her.
Xiaobai snatched the bangle instantly and said, “We will make do it with it. It’s fine if it’s ugly.”
First Elder was incensed.
The divine herb ran her finger over the bracelet. The more she looked at it, the more it got on her nerves. First elder brought over a jade slip, confident she’d be thankful. “Hehe, Princess, this is how you use it. Give it a try.”
The divine herb picked up the jade slip and checked it out. She shut her eyes. A beam shot into the pearl. The green pearl glowed. Wisps coiled around her. Her appearance altered. She was only a third of her former appearance. Everyone was impressed. The divine herb found it fun and smiled.
First Elder: “You don’t need to worry now.”
Yang Tian frowned and hesitated before replying, “You only allow nine people in. You sure they will not complain, as you have given us two spots?”
First Elder was dumbstruck. “What do you suggest, then?”
Yang Tian smiled. “Easy, let three of them come along. That makes it four from your side and four from our side. Add the divine herb in, and we are fair. Now there are no risks.”
Third Elder snapped, “Dream on!”
What a greedy brat!
Yang Tian shrugged. “Two should be fine, right?”
Third Elder flicked his sleeves. “No. Forget about it.”
Yang Tian touched his nose and began to think hard. An idea popped into mind. He answered, “How about you provide me with an artefact to protect myself, too.”
Third Elder: “What?!”
Talk about taking a yard when given an inch.
“Hehe, a faction of your size would not be lacking artefacts, would it? If you want to ensure your princess’ safety, you need to help me out.”
The two elders hesitated at first.
First Elder eventually smiled. “All right, but you must promise me one thing.”
“Please tell me,” replied Yang Tian, elated.
First Elder stroked his beard. “We’ll leave it for later. I’ll tell you when it’s time for Ancestral Garden to open.”
“I can’t accept this! How can you allow two humans in, yet I can’t?! I can’t accept this!”
