Supreme Swordsman of the Nine Heavens – Ch. 530

Shadowless Clan (Part 2)

Besides Mu Xin, everyone else at Mu Clan stayed up all night to wait for Mu Yu’s safe return.

“Mu Yu, thank heavens you’re back. Someone knocked when you left, and Uncle Bo answered the door to find Mu Xin sleeping there, so he carried her in. We were going to send someone to notify you, but we were worried we’d only get in your way, so…” Mu Rongxuan reported, carrying Mu Xin in his arms.

“I’m fine. Is Xin all right?” Mu Yu inquired.

Mu Yu planted his hand on Mu Xin’s forehead and sent spiritual energy into her body to check for any issues. Thankfully, Bai Yetian kept true to his word.

“She just passed out. She should be up tomorrow,” Cai Lie verbalised.

“What happened? Was it really Qing Ming?” Mu Tianhe asked.

“No, it was someone else. Has anyone heard of Shadowless Clan?”

Judging from the reactions, Mu Clan and Cai Lie had no idea. Lu Deyi, on the other hand, blurted, “Eh? Shadowless Clan, did you say?”

Eyes drifted to Lu Deyi as Mu Yu answered, “Yes, do you know about them?”

Lu Deyi stopped to scour his memories and then replied, “They’re a strange group. I heard a Shadow Syndicate member mention them in passing while I was coming up with a communication formation for Wishgrant Hall.”

“I know I said it before, but geez, you take any job, huh?!”

“Ahaha, well, I cannot reject someone who asks. We just do our job and take our pay; we don’t pry. Anyway, I heard them mention Shadowless Sect. From what I know, they’re Shadow Syndicate’s nemesis because Shadowless Sect constantly attempt to sabotage Shadow Syndicate, especially their assassination operations… Apparently, they killed a shadow assassin. That came as quite a surprise to me. I’m sure Shadow Syndicate’s blood would boil if you mentioned it.”

“Why do they sabotage Shadow Syndicate’s assassinations? Do they hate murder or something?”

“I could not tell you for sure. Given Shadow Syndicate has to pay the client double for the job if they fail, maybe Shadowless Sect try to earn the compensation Shadow Syndicate has to pay?”

“That’s pretty original. That being said, surely they aren’t just bored out of their skin and just camping Shadow Syndicate, waiting for them to pick up an assassination job to sabotage them, hahaha,” Mu Yu joked.

“That is true. Shadow Syndicate’s upper echelons also find Shadowless Clan a tough group. I bet the entire group finds them a challenge. I would not believe they do nothing besides sabotage Shadow Syndicate for money. I think we can conclude that Shadowless Sect can rival Shadow Syndicate,” opined Lu Deyi.

“I’ve never even heard of them,” commented Cai Lie.

“Based on your knowledge pertaining to Ultimate Immortals’ Ranking, do you know much about Bai Yetian.”

“That, I have. I bought a list of ultimate immortals here in the city when I was bored.” Cai Lie took out a long sheet of paper from his cosmic sleeve and passed it to Mu Yu.

The information was basically a copy of the immortal monument and, therefore, far less detailed compared to the jade pieces Huai Beiya sold. The ranking on the sheet was was back from 10th May and, obviously, wouldn’t be updated in real time.

“Strange,” Mu Yu murmured.

Bai Yetian was in rank ninety-three. That made no sense in consideration of his cultivation unless he deliberately hid his prowess or threw matches. His profile simply read, “Self-taught cultivator.”

“A rank ninety-three ultimate immortal started with you? Should’ve told me, man. I would’ve given him a whooping,” remarked Cai Lie, raising a fist.

“He’s a Spirit Severing Realm cultivator. He just hasn’t tried to climb the ranks.”

Fist stopping in the air, Cai Lie replied, “Ahem, I’ll go whoop him in the future.”

“Did he hurt you?” Mu Tianhe questioned.

Mu Yu used a smile to answer.

“Thank heavens. It’s late now, so let’s turn in for tonight. We can continue this discussion tomorr-” Mu Tianhe looked to the sky and rectified, “Tomorrow afternoon.”

Everyone returned to their rooms.

Lying on his bed, Mu Yu contemplated, Who’s backing Sikong Qiwen? There’s no way he doesn’t realise challenging Tian Budai without backing is asking to be cop it from everyone. Is his confidence just arrogance? Does he genuinely think that people won’t be able to figure out the secret behind his expedited progress?

If Bai Yetian didn’t lie about his affiliation, then he didn’t lie to me. More importantly, he made good points; he could take my family hostage to force my hand. Mu Clan is under a self-imposed siege right now. Shadowless Sect’s sudden addition to this puzzle has me more confounded than ever. There are bound to be more schemes brewing than ever in this city as more and more cultivators roll in.

Mu Yu examined the Ultimate Immortals Ranking again and mused, Cheng Yan has climbed two spots to rank thirty. Lie Shang climbed three spots to rank thirty-six. Well, I hate to admit it, but I can’t deny his aptitude. Lan Ling’er is still rank eighty-one. Xiang Nan is rank…

Mu Yu sprung up. “What the hell is this? Why is Xiang Nan in ninth place?! What in the world?!”
