Supreme Swordsman of the Nine Heavens – Ch. 522

Sure-Win Betting

Mu Yu felt no remorse for killing Tian Kaiyu. If anything, it was one less threat to Mu Clan. Mu Yu intended to put Mu Clan under Formation Sect’s protection in case Sikong Clan or Celestial Star Sect went after them.

Tian Kaiyu’s demise at Star Hall was kept under wraps for the eight great sects would become a joke if folks found out Mu Yu strolled in, killed him and walked out without any of them being able to do a thing about it. Nevertheless, they couldn’t cover the fact that Mu Yu killed him due to the change in rankings on Ultimate Immortals Ranking. Whether for better or worse, news of Mu Yu being the culprit still hadn’t reached too many ears for it to spread.

Mu Yu eventually opened up his doors to some visitors tacitly as he figured it would be better to have one more ally than to have another enemy. That being said, he had Mu Tianhe and Mu Zhexing receive the guests, while he focused on training Mu Hao, who demonstrated an aptitude for learning the art of formations.

With less than ten days to go, Mu Yu had to hide behind a formation to walk the streets, or he’d be stopping every three steps given the number of people who wanted to see him.

“Come on over. Who do you think will lose between the three? Place your bets with us. Sure-Win Betting is your friendly and exclusive bookie this time. You can trust us!” shouted Du Biying, master of Evil Dice, while his two clerks handed out ads to cultivators.

The building behind Du Biying was a play on his him, using homophones to create “Sure-Win Betting”. The ad being handed out was the tale of the tape that listed the three competitors’ profiles, betting odds and so forth. The tagline was, “Du Biying’s trustworthy betting house – the way to explosive spirit stone earnings.”

Well, the odds sure tell all there is to tell, Mu Yu thought.

Cultivators couldn’t deny their bets once they placed them or to bet on more than one party because they used their blood as identification when signing the betting contract.

Those from the unorthodox faction were responsible when it came to dealing with spirit stones, or rather, business in general – even though the majority of betting houses on Third Continent belonged to them and Du Biying was in charge of them.

“Mu Tianhe and Sikong Gaoming are facing off inside.”

“Mu Tianhe is trying to back up his grandson because of the unfavourable odds.”

“Come on, man, it’s a fact that Mu Yu is lagging behind the other two in terms of cultivation.”

Mu Yu stopped in his tracks and pondered, What’s Grandpa doing here? I can’t trust Sikong Gaoming. Let’s go see what’s going on.

“Sikong Gaoming, your teeth grow back already?”

“Mu Tianhe, don’t count your chickens before they hatch! You really think your grandson can win? I’ll send your entire clan to him after my son butchers him!”

Sikong Gaoming might not have known how to remain out of the limelight, but he wasn’t going to have any chance of harming Mu Tianhe with all the Body Severing Realm cultivators around. Not everyone was on his side. Some might’ve even backed up Mu Tianhe to get on Mu Yu’s good side. Besides, starting a fight where clerks were explaining things to customers and waitresses dressed revealingly wasn’t wise. He couldn’t predict what the owner might do; it was the unorthodox faction’s place, after all.

“Right back at you. I believe in my grandson.”

“Yet you bet ten thousand spirit stones on him? That’s all your confidence in him amounts to? Ahahaha.”

There were three transparent floor-to-ceiling pillars, exposing the floating colourful grain-sized speckles that were actually formations that stored cultivators’ betting information. To place bets, cultivators needed to insert their spirit stones into the formation in front of each pillar and a droplet of blood. The formation that Formation Sect cast would then collect their spirit stones and materialise a speckle of light inside the pillar.

A red spot equalled a hundred spirit stones.

An orange spot equalled a thousand spirit stones.

A yellow spot equalled ten thousand spirit stones.

A green spot equalled a hundred thousand spirit stones.

A teal spot equalled a million spirit stones.

A blue spot equalled ten million spirit stones.

A purple spot equalled fifty million spirit stones.

The pillar representing Sikong Qiwen had the most bets. Tian Budai’s pillar was so closely matched that the naked eye wouldn’t be able to tell he had less spots than Sikong Qiwen. Both of them had a blue spot and more crazy numbers. Mu Yu’s pillar, in contrast, only had around thirty red spots, a dozen orange spots and one yellow spot – courtesy of Mu Tianhe. When Mu Tianhe saw the discrepancy, he realised that he made it look even worse for Mu Yu due to making them appear desperate.

At the end of the day, ranking was dandy, but a difference in cultivation created a volatile situation.
