Supreme Swordsman of the Nine Heavens – Ch. 461

Pitiful Abandoned Pawn

Though Formation Sect’s disciples were elated Mu Chenghong won, they were also angry and suspected foul play on Talisman Sect’s par. If Mu Chenghong knew his efforts didn’t go to waste, he would’ve been consoled. The unfortunate part was that they placed their hopes on Zhang Cai and Ji Wenkai, two spies.

Overhearing Formation Sect’s disciples’ comments, Chang Tiancheng wrathfully muttered, “Two of the next bouts are guaranteed to be our victories. You want to win? Tell Hu Jiu and Ma Chengye to kill Zhang Cai and Ji Wenkai!”

Killing the two spies would’ve effectively hammered Formation Sect’s rising morale back to rock bottom. Thus, it shouldn’t have been surprising to know Zhou Jinglin indifferently thought, Welp, you two can contribute to our cause one last time, then.

Golden Core Realm Ninth Layer Lesser Heaven Stage disciple Hu Jiu leapt into the arena. Zhang Cai entered the arena, cool as a cucumber as he already knew he was to throw the match.

“Senior Brother, please be merciful. I will let you knock me out of the ring when the time is ripe,” Zhang Cai quietly said.

“Hehe, I know you will.”

Zhang Cai brought out his Lesser Heaven Stage formation Foundation and activated his strongest Lesser Heaven Stage formation. Hu Jiu played along, intercepting the attack. Zhang Cai left himself open and whispered, “Now, Senior Brother.”

“Okay.”

Zhang Cai juddered because he caught sight of the murderous desire that flitted across Hu Jiu’s face. Alas, Zhang Cai’s blind trust was be his undoing… Hu Jiu boosted his hand sharpness and solidity, chopping across Zhang Cai’s throat. Zhang Cai opened his mouth to ask why his senior brother messed up, but, to his shock, blood gushed out.

Thud! Zhang Cai’s body gave in before he could even raise his hands to his throat.

Formation Sect’s disciples’ mouths flew off the handle. It was painful to listen the others try to assure them Ji Wenkai would avenge Zhang Cai. Ji Wenkai’s interrogative gaze made its way to Zhou JInglin.

Shh… I must be next! Ji Wenkai thought. “Cheng Zhuo, you take my place. I’m not feeling too well.”

“Senior Brother Ji, you are the more advanced cultivator. The match is all yours,” Mu Yu interjected, defending Cheng Zhuo.

Ji Wenkai’s mouth twitched. “Junior Brother Feng Mu, this is not about whether I won’t to not but that I’m not in shape for it. How about I forfeit my match?”

“Are you saying that you want to tuck tail after all that we’ve done to help you grow?” Zhuge Xiaosheng questioned, hoping Ji Wenkai perished.

Ji Wenkai gulped to sooth his dry throat and strode to the arena as if he had weights around his legs, thinking, Why does he want me dead after everything I’ve done for the sect?!

“How you been, Senior Brother?” Ma Chengye sarcastically greeted.

Speaking through his teeth, Ji Wenkai asked, “Zhou Jinglin instructed you to kill me, didn’t he?”

“You speak in jest, Senior Brother. We would not kill our fellow clansmen. Hu Jiu killed Zhang Cai because Zhang Cai wanted to join Mu Chenghong.”

“Yeah right!”

“Zhang Cai did betray us. All you have to do is faithfully carry out your mission. I can’t bear to kill you,” said Ma Chengye, smiling sarcastically.

“What if I don’t want to lose to you?” Ji Wenkai questioned, imagining if it was possible to defect to Formation Sect.

“Senior Brother, you don’t want Deity Destruction Talisman to kill you the way it’s killing Mu Chenghong, do you? He may still be hanging on by a thread now, but it’s only temporary. Do you think Zhuge Xiaosheng will help you stop it?”

Mu Chenghong took Mo Ziming down. I haven’t done anything unlike Mu Chenghong… If I try to kill Ma Chengye, Zhuge Xiaosheng won’t help me once I’m exposed, and Zhou Jinglin will kill me, analysed Ji Wenkai, starting to quake in his boots. “What do I have to do to be spared?”

“Haha, Senior Brother, the goal of making you lose is to crush their morale. You are one of their supporting pillars. If you’re willing to abandon your honour and beg me on your knees, I think it will be a different means to the same end. If their hope bows down, do you think they’d still want to fight?”

Thud! Ji Wenkai dropped to his knees immediately and kowtowed frantically. “Don’t kill me! I surrender! I surrender! Formation Sect surrenders! Please don’t kill me!”

S-serious? Ma Chengye’s brain stuttered; not even he expected Ji Wenkai to abandon his pride.
