Moon and Sun Switch
Mo Ziming blew off Mu Chenghong’s right leg with the fifth lightning bolt!
“Patriarch, save Senior Brother Mu!”
While some were crying out, others had their wits shocked out of them.
“Stop!” Zhuge Xiaosheng brayed.
Chang Tiancheng intercepted Zhuge Xiaosheng to indifferently query, “Patriarch Zhuge, why are you constantly trying to interfere with the matches?”
True, Chang Tiancheng didn’t see Mo Ziming’s vicious act coming. Nonetheless, as it helped him achieve his goal, sacrificing Mu Chenghong was acceptable.
“You are going too far!”
Chang Tiancheng scoffed, “Whatever do you mean? It is part and parcel of competing. The loser has no say, true?”
It was then that Zhuge Xiaosheng realised that he didn’t want to see Mu Chenghong writhing on the ground as Mo Ziming took his sweet time crippling him despite Mu Chenghong’s betrayal.
Formation Sect’s other Greater Heaven casters were irate enough to fight back if that was what was necessary. All they needed was Zhuge Xiaosheng to throw the first punch. In contrast, Mu Yu was unfazed, even grinning – not because he was heartless but because he could see it for what it actually was.
Wearing a sinister smile, Mo Ziming performed hand seals and brought down the sixth lightning bolt.
Up until then, Mu Chenghong was clutching his throat and silently groaning. After taking the sixth lightning bolt, his voice was audible again. In an inflamed throat voice, Mu Chenghong grabbed his throat and whimpered, “H-how dare you kill me?!”
People wrinkled their noses, thinking, “Has Mu Chenghong lost his mind?”
“I’ll kill you, Mu Chenghong!”
Mu Chenghong coughed up a mouthful of blood from the ground. A blood talisman reflected off his dilated pupils and boom! Red mist dispersed, and the explosion rocked the arena. The atmosphere cracked and crumbled, revealing what as truly taking place in the arena.
The amputee on the ground wasn’t Mu Chenghong but Mo Ziming. The one hovering in the sky and controlling the lightning bolts wasn’t Mo Ziming but Mu Chenghong! Besides Mu Yu, not a single soul could make heads and tails of the situation.
“Mu Chenghong, how dare you kill me using an illusion formation! I swear I’ll rip you limp from limb!” howled Mo Ziming.
From the moment Mu Chenghong’s first and second lightning bolt clashed, generating the blinding light, he already caught everyone in his illusion formation – except for Mu Yu, who saw through it. What everyone saw was Mu Chenghong carrying out what Mo Ziming wanted to enact.
Presenting, Moon and Sun Switch Formation, the illusion formation that had nearly everyone fooled.
Mu Chenghong spent the last few days agonising over which path to take. Though he was a disciple of Talisman Sect, he grew up at Formation Sect. His mentors held nothing back, imparting all of their knowledge to him. His juniors respected him as their senior and as a human being. There was no definitive point in the timeline that he could point to and say, “This is when I started treating Formation Sect as my home.” Still, he was fond of Formation Sect and treated it as his home. Song Qingyu and Ye Hong’s losses hit as hard as his own loss.
Mu Chenghong wanted to restore hope to Formation Sect for that was the only way Formation Sect’s disciples would take a stand when Talisman Sect launched their assault on Formation Sect. If he couldn’t instil hope, they would be countless Ye Hongs. He genuinely wanted to help Formation Sect get through the crisis and be the exemplar for others to follow. When he chose to defy Talisman Sect, he also made up his mind to go down with both sects if that was how it had to end. From the bottom of his heart, he desired to express his gratitude for everyone at Formation Sect for everything that they did for him.
As Mu Chenghong was aware Talisman Sect would stop him if he brazenly put Mo Ziming in his place, he needed to resort to a large-scale formation. Having witnessed Talisman Sect take advantage of the rules to punish Song Qingyu, he decided to return the favour.
The only flaw in Mu Chenghong’s otherwise perfect formation was his eyes. Mu Yu saw the eyes of a man with a clear conscience in “Mo Ziming”, which told him that the Mo Ziming he saw was actually Mu Chenghong. After all, that wasn’t the sort of character Mo Ziming was. Mu Yu chose not to speak up as Mu Chenghong’s actions spoke louder than words.
Mu Yu cracked a smile, telling himself, I suppose I’m only getting to know the real Mu Chenghong now.
Glossary
Moon and Sun Switch – This is a literal translation. The original phase simply means “switch”, which doesn’t have the same flare as the Chinese counterpart. The formation would simply be “Switch Formation”. To keep the flare of a technique, the literal translation was used.
