Martial King’s Retired Life – Vol. 16 Ch. 21

Deities Abandoning Children (Part 1)

The smell of something having been zapped by lightning accompanied an ominous aura. Langya’s whip resembled a dominant lightning snake that frightened off stones and dirt.

A discussion on lightning martial arts without mentioning Dark Robe Brotherhood’s “Forbidden Lightning Winds” was not a real discussion on lightning martial arts. Since they happened to be on Black Robe Brotherhood’s grounds, as well, Bai Lian initially suspected Langya was one of them. As someone who grew up in the imperial palace, Bai Lian had heard plenty about Black Robe Brotherhood’s martial arts disciplines, including the way Wang and Xie Clans used it differently.

Xie Clan focused on the words “Wind Lightning”; they focused on power as opposed to sophistication, so their techniques were simple but strong. If they hit someone with a full-power strike, you would see particles of the once complete body.

In contrast, Wang Clan was able to apply the principles to any other weapon, including their own limbs, which was why their disciplines were diverse. While their victims would look perfectly normal – as far as corpses went – one would find their organs zapped if they were to dissect the corpses.

Langya’s lightning, in contrast, resembled a synthesis of both clans’ version.

Lightning energy was a challenge to fend off due to its shape and the heat accompanying it. In the event that both combatants had similar levels of internal energy potency, the lightning user would have had an overwhelming advantage.

Su Xiao was not fearless; he was just not sure what he was supposed to fear. His martial arts journey was a bizarre one, and despite his progress in Yijin Jing recently, he was still just a mimicker, someone who just did as he was told, yet he swung straight at Langya’s whip. As he did not know how to adapt his energy, when they clashed, the lightning energy invaded Su Xiao’s body, while his blade resembled lightning blasts going off.

Thanks to her experience, Langya decided to redirect her whip to Su Xiao when they clashed, turning her whip into an acupoint striking tool. However, due to the amount of energy in Su Xiao’s blade, her whip was delayed. Once the power from Su Xiao’s weapon transferred over, it struck her whip down, making it resemble a lifeless snake on the ground.

“Impressive internal energy, kid.” Langya recoiled her whip and then swiftly launched a palm strike at Su Xiao’s, generating a loud thud.

Langya had a knack for martial arts, a good head on her shoulders, a good teacher from a young age, and she believed she was accomplished in her external and internal disciplines, so she did not expect to find a match in internal energy against someone younger than her. Before she knew it, she had ramped up her output to sixty percent just to repel him, prompting her to stop herself before she hurt him. Once her lightning entered her target’s body, it would wreck their body without leaving visible traces on the outside. In particular, when she had contact with them for a prolonged period, as she had with Su Xiao in this exchange, they had no chance of resisting the lightning invasion.

As soon as she asserted her dominance, Langya quickly pulled her hand away and flicked it at the heavens, where she unleashed another thunderbolt.

“I accept defeat,” expressed Su Xiao, recovering his balance.

Langya was puzzled for a second until she saw the purple qi on Su Xiao’s face gradually fade away, indicating that he had neutralised the lightning energy inside him. While his internal energy lacked her potency, it was pure, like a boat that would never get lost in a violent storm.

“I appreciate you showing mercy.” When Su Xiao held out the broadsword, it was clear for all to see that it had been contorted into the shape of a ball.

When their hands collided, Su Xiao was unable to control his energy, resulting in him transferring both of their energy into the blade. Although Su Xiao admitted defeat without hesitation, he thought he only lost because his weapon was not up to scratch.

“Good that you know your place,” responded Langya, stashing her whip away.

Langya honestly wanted to just shoo the duo off since their group had been distracted from their main objective for too long already, only for Su Xiao to approach her and whisper, “Miss, are you also here to pick a bone with Dark Robe Brotherhood?”

Noticing Langya’s surprise, Su Xiao added, “You held back so that you wouldn’t hurt me, so you wouldn’t be with these bad guys.”

Su Xiao’s wink made Langya blush. Frustrated that a little runt was able to make her blush, she put him in a headlock and rubbed his temples with her knuckles. “What are you here for, then, brat?”

“It hurts! It hurts! We came here to borrow a treasure. We never expected to be bound as soon as we arrived.”

“Borrow a treasure?” Langya released her hold on Su Xiao and smiled. “Here? Do you have any idea where you are?”

The swordsman turned around to ask, “We have fulfilled our promise to thwart your intruders. Can you now take us to Patriarch Wang?”

The guide, who was the steward, shook his head. “How have you fulfilled your promise when the intruders are still present?”

Han said, “The two of them don’t seem to harbour any ill will towards anyone here. He said he was bound as soon as he entered, which doesn’t sound like he started anything. There must be a misunderstanding.”

“There is none.” The steward shook his head. “Until the intruders are removed, this one dares not escort you inside.”

“Really? It does not seem that you do not dare at all.” The lion-like man continued, “You have tried to pit us against Liu Shan Men for both of us to suffer. I would say you are more than daring. Do you happen to be involved in the live dissections of the forty pregnant women of Yangliu?”
