Bandit Eradication
“Hao, protect Xin,” ordered Mu Rongxuan, sneaking a glance Mu Yu’s way prior to charging out.
Mu Hao kept Mu Xin behind him and aggressed, “Who are you? Why have we come under attack as soon as you appeared? Are they with you?”
“Oi, don’t start framing me!” Mu Yu exclaimed. “Stay here, and protect Xin. Your bad luck is rubbing off on me. I’ll go check it out.”
Whoa, there are over a hundred of these blokes. What’s the point of the black robes if you’re going to expose your chests? Scars don’t show you’re tough; they show you couldn’t defend yourself! Mu Yu inwardly chided.
The bald leader had a missing eye, and his face had been cut numerous times in the past. He licked his machete. “Hehehe, hand over all your valuables. Leave behind your goods and women. The rest of you can piss off after you amputate one of your arms.”
“One-Eyed Dragons, we paid you the annual fee, haven’t we? What is the meaning of this?” Mu Rongxuan questioned, seething.
One-Eyed Dragon was the name of a group of bandits who specifically targeted travelling merchants in the desert. The four big clans once united to try and eradicate the bandits, but the bandits’ enigmatic habits made it impossible to locate their hideout. Consequently, the four decided to negotiate with the bandits and settled on paying an annual “toll fee” so that One-Eyed Dragon wouldn’t harass them.
“So what? I’m robbing you right now. From now on, your clan’s fee is double, hehehe.” Two Golden Core Realm brutes stepped out from behind the leader.
Outmuscled severely and burdened with two kids, Mu Rongxuan put aside his personal issue with them and responded, “All right, you have a deal.”
“But you still need to offer up an arm and leave the women, hehehe.”
“Master, let’s fight them to the death!” one of Mu Rongxuan’s escorts suggested.
“Sikong Clan sent you, didn’t they?” Mu Rongxuan queried.
If the bandits were solely after money, they could’ve taken the money and left. Why risk their lives if it wasn’t necessary? The only group Mu Clan happened to have a feud with was Sikong Clan, hence the suspicion.
“Long-story short, we’ve been paid to take your life. Kill them!”
“Hao, take Xin and run!” Mu Rongxuan belted, intercepting One-Eyed Dragon.
Mu Rongxuan donned his green energy and opened in a whipping motion with his flying sword. One-Eyed Dragon intercepted with his machete, pushing Mu Rongxuan back. One-Eyed Dragon’s two Golden Core Realm henchmen jumped at Mu Rongxuan and drove him back.
“This job is totally worth it.”
One-Eyed Dragon perform an executioner swing down at Mu Rongxuan, and the latter’s neck was left wide open.
“There always has to be someone who has to ruin my trips!”
Bewildered as to why he couldn’t finish his swing, One-Eyed Dragon looked up; however, he was smashed in the chest before he could see who his assailant was. The heavy blow ruptured all of his organs, finishing him instantly and treated Wood Spirit Sword to a soul energy snack.
Mu Yu kicked One-Eyed Dragon over to his two stunned subordinates and complained, “What, still want to fight? Your one-eyed poser of a boss is dead, you know?”
“Run!”
The bandits fled helter skelter.
“On second thought, I might as well finish you lot to prevent you harming others in the future.”
Mu Yu caught all of the absconding bandits in spiritual energy restraints and crushed them, treating Wood Spirit Sword to a big meal of soul energy once again. Mu Yu could feel that his indifference toward killing criminals had turned into something he began to relish afterwards.
Mu Yu patted Mu Rongxuan, who was suffering from a case of shock and gaping jaw, on the shoulder. “Solved, Mr. Mu. All is well now.”
“Dad, I’ll help y-”
Mu Yu pushed Mu Hao’s head back in as the latter popped out, causing the boy to fall onto his back. Mu Yu climbed back in and teased, “Help with what, corpse collection? Too slow, kiddo.”
“I’ll kill you, you spy!”
“You’re not killing anyone.” Mu Yu flicked Mu Hao in the forehead. Seeing the fear painted all over Mu Xin’s face, Mu Yu cracked a smile and apologised, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to kill you.”
“Stop, Mu Hao! Don’t be rude to our saviour.” Mu Rongxuan ran over after finally snapping out of it. He fearfully and frantically expressed, “Sorry, Feng Mu. I apologise on his behalf for his disrespect.”
“Dad, are you all right. The sp-”
“Quiet! Apologise to him now. Had he not eradicated those bandits, we’d all be dead right now.”
Mu Yu caught the hand Mu Rongxuan swung at Mu Hao and said, “Don’t worry about it. I do not mind.”
“How could he have killed them in less than six seconds? You must be joking, Dad,” Mu Hao contested, monitoring Mu Yu’s every movement.
“I apologise for not teaching my son better.”
Mu Yu’s aura was back to Foundation Establishment Realm. Mu Rongxuan, nonetheless, was positive he sensed power leagues above his own when Mu Yu struck.
Mu Yu leaned on the backrest and voiced, “Have them clean up, and let us be on our way.”
“Right away, right away.” Mu Rongxuan popped out and commanded, “Snap out of it and clean up. Treat your wounds while you’re at it.”
They soon resumed their journey. Mu Rongxuan’s attitude toward Mu Yu was also significantly more courteous. “Benefactor, y-”
“Just call me ‘Feng Mu’. Calling me ‘Benefactor’ sounds awkward.” Mu Yu teased Mu Hao again with a wink.
Mu Hao couldn’t put down his suspicion since he didn’t witness Mu Yu take the bandits out.
“Feng Mu, would you happen to be a disciple of a major sect?” Mu Rongxuan gingerly pried.
“No, nobody even knows me, hahaha.”
Mu Rongxuan didn’t buy it for one second – not that he could’ve forced Mu Yu to reveal any more. Noticing Mu Hao interrogating Mu Yu with his gaze, he admonished, “I said show some respect. You have to learn from Feng Mu.”
“Learn what from him? Before he showed up, we were safe and sound. As soon as he rocked up, bandits nabbed us. He also refuses to reveal his identity. He’s fishy! Plus, if I’m going to learn from someone, it’ll be from Mu Yu. Mu Yu would clown him.”
“You want to learn from Mu Yu?” Mu Yu asked, amused.
“You have a problem with that?” Mu Hao scathingly asked, puffing his chest out.
“None whatsoever. Why would I have one?” Mu Yu accompanied his answer with a yawn.
