Martial King’s Retired Life – Vol. 16 Ch. 43

Hua Yumeng

Ming Houyao, also known as the famous Marquis Starhunter, was one of the few people in the pugilistic world who dared to use “Marquis” in their name. Patriarch Song was one of the few and most famous exceptions because he actually held a Marquis post. The other type of individuals were the ones who were not remotely related to the Marquis title, but they needed to gloss up their name. Ming Hou was the latter and the most famous among them. All that being said, those well acquainted with the owner of Hou Estate would accuse him of chasing trends. To the contrary, they would vouch for his loyalty.

To be fair, Ming Houyao was falsely accused of being hubristic and vain. His ancestor was a legitimate Marquis, although not for long and was involved in treason, which resulted in him being stripped of the title and exiled. He was exiled to further north of Jinyong, a place where only one in ten human beings survived the harsh cold that only the most ferocious beasts could weather. Had Emperor Yuansheng not shown benevolence upon his official appointment, Ming Houyao and his father would not have been allowed to return to the Central Plains, and his skills would never have seen the light of day.

Ming Houyao’s legs were ruined during his time at the northern border. Fortunately, he met a martial arts mentor who not only helped him overcome his disability but even helped him achieve a high mastery of qinggong. Considering he was among the top five qinggong users in Jiangnan and the top twenty if combat was included, he had already achieved what many could never even dream of achieving. Yet, it had been three days since he had a wink of sleep. He had spent the last three days waiting in his backyard, refusing to do anything else but wait.

“Damn lecher… How dare you ruin my daughter’s reputation…” With bloodshot eyes, Ming Houyao ground the stone in his hands to stone, then picked up another to continue grinding the next one to dust.

The two other household names of Hangzhou whom he had called over were not on par with Matriarch Zi or Night Fortress’ master, but the two recluses, Eagle Broadswordsman and Wolf Swordsman were not people anyone without a death wish would start with. Not only were the two Night Fortress’ subordinates, but they also received Night Fortress’ master’s tutelage at one point. Though they joined Night Fortress’ expansion incognito, they both played pivotal role in Night Fortress’ conquest.

While Eagle Broadswordsman and Wolf Swordsman were not necessarily superior to Ming Houyao, he would not have been their match if he were to fight them simultaneously. Most importantly, they had the backing of Night Fortress. Therefore, assaulting them would be tantamount to declaring war on Night Fortress. If that were to happen, then Ming Houyao would definitely have his revenge. Perhaps they were too intimidating that the target of his vengeance never returned, but then, he did brazenly stroll out of Ming Houyao’s estate the first time, so…

Ming Houyao’s anxiety had started to infect the other two. He did offer payment enough for their buddies to splurge at a restaurant; however, was it not unfair for them to work and their buddies to spend the fruits of their labour? For that reason, they were unhappy.

The three of them had not moved from the entrance of Ming Houyao’s daughter’s room, but their hostility could virtually be seen from the sky. In her room, on the other hand, he had gently set her down onto her long couch. Like a maiden waking from a dream, she asked, “Eh? We’re… back already?”

His unbridled smile and aura contrasting his gentle tone set her heart aflutter. Despite not being outstandingly muscular, he had the appearance of a well-endowed man. If he were to dress differently, he could have passed off as an accomplish scholar. In a gentle tone, he replied, “Don’t worry. If your father forces his ideals on you again, I shall visit again. I won’t stop until he leaves you alone.”

Hou Jiling heaved a depressing breath. “Ever since then, dad has cut off all news, prohibited me from leaving and censored the fact that you visited. He wants me to marry into Wang Clan.”

Ming Houyao was fixated on his ancestor’s success in the political arena, causing him to covet a connection to government officials. Consequently, he sought to marry his daughter to Wang Clan so that there was more authenticity to his “duke” title.

“His ambition has clouded his judgement.” He chuckled condescendingly and then added, “He’s treating his fantastic daughter as merchandise. Since he doesn’t know how to cherish her, I’ll help him learn his daughter’s value.”

“Thank you so much.” Hou Jiling now trusted the man she once suspected more than anyone else. “May I ask if you have a wife?” she blurted.

“Me?” Though he smiled, there was a hint of sorrow. After pausing to think, he grinned. “I’m not that fortunate.”

He vanished before she heard the end of his sentence, and the next thing she heard was yelling and weapons being drawn outside. By the time she peered outside, from her room, he had vanished.

You won’t be able to catch him.

Ever since his debut in the pugilistic world, he pulled off one big feat after the next. Additionally, many elites of the martial world called him their friend. Heroes of the world looked up to him whenever they met him. He was the owner of numerous nicknames including, “Mr. Mist”, “The Wanted One”, “Lord of the Underworld”.

His name was Hua Feihua.
