“Are we going?”

“Why not?” I rhetorically answered. “Besides, I didn’t bring money.”

Would I have had to flee from the capital if I had money?

Although the timing of her purse being stolen was similar to how Shifu “fished” for women, he could not have determined that I entered Hangzhou now, right? Well, maybe… In any case, we could only cross that bridge when we came to it. If we could not trust someone we randomly met, then there was no way we could trust anyone at an inn. For all we knew, we might have had to set up camp outdoors. Besides, she seemed to have a thing for Tang Ye. That said, she was still worthy of suspicion. Thus, I employed Voice Transmission to tell Tang Ye, “Get her.”

“Get her?”

To avoid any freaks who could still hear us, I used casual, yet sophisticated, had signs to get my point across.

Having thought it through with locked brows, Tang Ye finally understood me. “You mean…”

“Exactly.”

“But I don’t have any enmity with her father. Demanding her father fight with me out of the blue isn’t a good idea, is it?”

“What fight?”

“?”

“?”

“What are you talking about?”

I, once again, performed the sophisticated and flowing hand signals that came with the special effects again.

“Don’t you find that disgusting? That’s what scum would do.”

“What scum?” I performed the hand signs again and quietly voiced, “I’m telling you to chat with her. No matter how much mystery she’s shrouded in, profile her. How is that scummy?”

“?”

“?”

Tang Ye frowned as though he agreed and disagreed simultaneously. “… Never mind. I just misunderstood.”

You naïve kid. If there was such a job, you’d never have a turn.

I should not have counted on him. If he was dependable, Bai Yumo would not have won his heart so easily. At the end of the day, I could only rely on myself. I adjusted my fox-fur collar, my mink cashmere overcoat, wool shirt, python-leather belt, shark-skin boots and then with a big smile, confidently strode forth. I brushed my overcoat, flashing my bear-fur pants and said, “Miss, the two of us have urgent business.”

“Oh? What business does your young master have?”

“My young master…”

Wait, how did I suddenly become a servant?!

“Miss, look closely. Look at the quality of my attire and then compare it to his.”

“Ah, I get it.” Beaming, the young lady covered her lips with her mouth. “I heard rich young masters switch roles with their servants when out and about in case of danger. You must be wearing all the extravagant clothing to draw attention to yourself; you truly are dutiful. He must have quite the background, then. I apologise for my rashness. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.”

What’s your deal, Tang Ye? You insist on shining even in the dark, do you? Not even those shabby clothes can hide your thunder?! Why am I the servant in these opulent garments, while you’re the master in that get up?!

Tang Ye gave me the innocent face.

Save it for her!

I went over to Tang Ye and squatted down as if I was his bodyguard.

Cornered, Tang Ye offered a propitious salute and inquired, “May I ask for your name?”

“My surname is Yan. You can just call me Qingluo.”

What happened to girls from influential families not divulging their name? Does it not count if it’s a handsome guy asking?

“Miss Yan, this one’s surname is Jia. This is my bodyguard. His surname is Ming. As it is our first day in Hangzhou, we have been quite lost and struggling. We would be immensely grateful if you would allow us to stay at your place for a day or two while we continue searching for somewhere to stay.”

It was easy to settle once Tang Ye spoke up. While they were walking in front, chatting merrily and taking in the scenery, I had to carry Tang Ye and my own luggage in the rear, as well as the two ladies’ shopping.

Did you two come out to go on a robbery spree?! What sort of rich lady goes shopping with a carrying pole, and why do I have to carry it?! Tell them off, Tang Ye!

The good part was, not even Shifu was likely to recognise me in my terrible state. Even if he did recognise me, he would not acknowledge me, lest I embarrassed him.

Yan Manor’s plaque that read “Yang Manor” was old enough to believe it was authentic. The handwriting exuded an aloof personality. The interior was neat and practical – in the sense that there was no unnecessary furniture.

Perhaps it was due to me being silent for so long while he was collecting intel from Miss Yan, Tang Ye whispered, “What’s the matter, Big Bro?”

I kept looking around in silence as we walked. Only once we reached the backyard did I managed to put my thoughts into words.

“I have the impression that I’ve been here before.”

“… You’ve been here before? This wouldn’t be the property of one of your subordinates, would it?”

I shook my head. “No. My boys have good taste. They would never have such good handwriting.”

My boys would never be aloof, but the text on the plaque and the beautiful garden… I swore I had seen them before.

“When was I here…?”

There was a middle-aged scholar facing in the direction of the sun to read. The scholar attired in old, but neat, green garments was the textbook definition of aloof judging from his aura. The maiden jogged up to him and hugged his arm. After they conversed for a while, she got up and said, “Young Master Jia, allow me to introduce you. This is my father.”

Once her father got up and took a few steps towards up, I finally got a clear picture of his appearance and had a flashback.

“I remember now.”

“What?”

“I remember when I came here.”

A few more steps later, I sensed the same danger as a natural enemy spawning before me.

Miss Yan bashfully informed, “My father is the magistrate of Hangzhou. I apologise for not mentioning it earlier as we were in public.”

I continued, “I came here when Second was arrested.”

This guy is the uptight magistrate who even trialled my shifu!
