Su Xiao and Bai Lian’s Bizarre Adventure (Part 5)
Bai Lian was on the verge of reaching her limit. Aside from her determination, all she had left holding her up was her internal energy. She had only learnt three palm techniques from Daoist Wushan.
The chilly, straight-forward “Glamorous Aerial Greenfrost” was designed for dismantling.
“Clearfrost Eternal Door” was designed for clinching scenarios.
“Infinite Palace” was an all-out technique.
All three techniques utilised purely cold internal energy as their foundation, so their potency was based on internal energy potency, so Bai Lian’s execution was far less lethal compared to Daoist Wushan. Having said that, she did learn her internal discipline from him, which should have been impressive.
Perhaps owing to its complexity, not even Daoist Wushan himself mastered said internal discipline. Every time he trained Bai Lian, he left her with bizarre text. They were tongue twisters, yet he did not even bother explaining the meaning, demanding she figure it out herself. Fortunately, she had the patience to study, resulting in her development of yin internal energy. Only once she learnt it did Daoist Wushan actually name the discipline, but the name “Suspended Moon” frankly sounded like a spur-of-the-moment idea. For her to still be alive and healthy, she easily qualified as gifted. She was able to befriend Ming Feizhen as she shared a similar experience to his childhood.
At her current level, Bai Lian was able to not only inflict damage without direct contact with her palm strikes, but she was also able to imbue them with her frosty energy. Once an opponent was exposed to it for an extensive period, their combat abilities would be compromised. For some reason, her current opponent did not show any signs of being impacted.
He maintained a safe distance from Bai Lian instead of risking getting too close, which reduced the force of her strikes since they had to travel farther, using his sword as an obstruction and retreating when she advanced too close. Despite her development, it was hard for Bai Lian to maintain output over a long distance and over dozens of strikes. The only reason the match had yet to end was because he had yet to counter.
The only time he swung was to disable Bai Lian’s strikes, refusing to engage in any endeavour that would change the flow or avenging Langya for the sneak attack. It was as if he was trying to spar with her as opposed to fight.
Bai Lian’s primary limitation with “Clearfrost Eternal Door” was her lack of experience. She was unwilling to gamble on “Infinite Palace” as she would have likely ended up too deficient in energy to escape afterwards. Moreover, when she attempted to furtively retreat, he immediately forced her to engage him.
“You have burnt yourself out.”
His statement and switch to a hostile expression gave Bai Lian the impression that he was going to go for the kill, but then he said, “How about we call it off now? You have proven yourself more than accomplished, so I would assume that you hail from a respectable sect. You merely lack experience. We can always have a rematch once you have accumulated more experience.”
“What?”
He abruptly performed an extremely fast thrust. As Bai Lian retreated, she inwardly cursed him for fighting dirty, but he did not pursue her. In other words, he had expressed a clear desire to cease fighting. She could hear her own heavy breaths as she eyed him.
“This is enough,” said Bai Lian’s opponent, wearing a grin as he returned the wooden sword he borrowed. “Sparring is for the sake of improvement, not to gamble lives. There is no need to go so far, is there?”
Stopping short or stopping once it was clear who was superior, as he did, was common. In the pugilistic world, though, there was no such thing as “once and forever” when it came to fights. After all, who really knew what other motives could have been behind a “spar”, especially when they sported his appearance?
“Why did you hold back?” questioned Bai Lian.
“You displayed incredible strength with the palm strike you aimed at Langya. However, you were unable to support your efforts afterwards, presumably because you used everything you had to save your companion. It would be dishonourable to take advantage of your circumstances.”
Were it not for his face that gave the impression he was going to stab people in the back, Bai Lian would have mistaken him for a lecturer at Daren Academy. “You’re a gentleman when you look, like that?”
While his smile made people feel uncomfortable, his displeased expression was the same as anyone else’s – readable.
“This is bad. Mr. Yingmu can’t stand that sort of critical blow,” Han whispered.
Wei replied, “Guess he’s going to be depressed for several days again.”
The big lion-like man burst out in laughter. “His fault for having such a hateable face.”
The tattooed man said, “All that said, please do not leave.”
Bai Lian thought he finally showed his true colours, prompting her to smirk. “What happened to just sparring?”
Meanwhile, Bai Lian started contemplating how to sneak attack the two youngest ones to open an escape route, only for him to ask, “Well, they are still fighting over there, are they not?”
Bai Lian looked over to see Su Xiao and Langya heading towards the end of their fight.
Su Xiao and Langya’s match no longer qualified as a fight to the death after the latter took out her whip. If Su Xiao was just some brawler, then Langya was a sophisticated and trained killer. The only reason she could not defeat Su Xiao was because he was able to disable her attacks that she thought were the most effective against him. Ever since his fight against Bai Ju, Su Xiao had trained with the image of himself fighting Bai Ju, even consulting Ming Feizhen and Tang Ye.
Upon hearing Yingmu declare the end of his match, Langya decided play time was over. The sudden increase in pace rendered Su Xiao unable to even breathe properly, a sensation he had forgotten ever since he levelled up.
“L-lighting?!” Bai Lian exclaimed.
