Stepmom-con – Ch. 122

Chapter 122

In the Beipan Capital there was a small meeting among the heroes from the various Kingdoms to discuss the death of Prince Leonard. The Priest who had treated the Prince was questioning the reason for his death. They were all in a commons area within the barracks of which they were housed eating the nightly meal.

Priest:”I know for a fact Prince Leonard’s life wasn’t in danger when he died.”

Hero One:”If his life wasn’t in danger then what would be the reason for his death?”

Hero 2:”Royalty! Royalty will lie if it’s convenient for them. All the nobles and aristocrats! They’re all the same. They’re selfish and don’t care about anyone else but themselves.”

Priest:”That’s correct. I’m telling you, and this must be kept secret but Prince Leonard was alive and could be kept alive. Even if he wasn’t fed or taken care of he would have lived several weeks before starving to death.”

Hero One:”So you’re certain that someone ended his life.”

The Priest sighed.

Priest:”We’re all tools in this being put out to die by a Kings and Queens who are frivolous with our lives. Do you want to continue fighting that man who comes and wants to kill King Bide?”

The people in the group all looked at each other. So many of them had died, none of the civilians who wouldn’t stand in their way or attack had died. The soldiers who tried to stop him were slaughtered and their bodies littered the streets.

Hero 2:”What should we do?”

Priest:”We join him.”

It was now time to go and attack King Bide again. I was going to kill them but I didn’t know when. I’m certain the constant attacks everyday should eventually turn those who were loyal to him against him.

I once again walked towards the capital gates and there were soldiers there. In the front was a priest and they all had solemn looks on their faces.

Roy:”I’m going to kill King Biden, Prince Hunte and Princess Arla, and all those in my way will also be killed.”

Priest:”If you will promise to kill all of them today at once then we will let you pass and we will all leave the capital.”

Now that wasn’t the answer I was expecting.

Roy:”Promise to kill all of them? I only want to kill King Bide today.”

Priest:”Sir Roy, you must understand you put us all in a a difficult position when we are supposed to defend them and our job is to fight. None of us want to defend the aristocracy, the monarchs or those who do evil but the power in the country forces us too.”

Oh. It’s one of those ‘woe is me’ moments about how it’s hard for them. I don’t have much sympathy for them, granted it’s a cruel world where they have to do what they have to do to survive but they could have become adventurers instead. They didn’t have to sign up with kingdoms.

Sure the pay is less but they could have done that over joining something and then being forced to do the bidding of others.

Roy:”No, I’ll do whatever I want. You can fight me, you can let me pass or you can get your things, save your families and leave this place. I have no obligation to any of you.”

Priest:”Please, we beg of you! Kill the tyrants and let us go freely, we’re all tired of dying.”

I really had no sympathy for them.

Roy:”How many of you forced others who were weaker than you to give up their property or their lives because you were ordered?”

Hero One:”We had no choice, we were doing our jobs.”

Roy:”Then you can continue doing your jobs. Fight me and die by my hand, or let me pass and deal with whatever consequences that come from the monarchs you’ve always served. Or run away. I could careless what you all do when you didn’t care about the lives you ruined following their orders.”

Those soldiers who captured me and put me into torture were also just doing their jobs. The excuse to do evil because someone was just doing their jobs was not an excuse I entertained and I began to move forward.

Priest:”You’re forcing us into this!”

Roy:”No, you’re forcing yourself. If you never joined with the King or if you all decided to get together and go against him rather than do their bidding for your own profit then they would never have used your power to oppress others in the first place.”

Hero 2:”We have our families to feed! How were we supposed to provide for them if we didn’t take a job? An adventurer’s job doesn’t pay well.”

Roy:”Then you should have become a farmer or something, who knows. Not my problem, not step aside or die.”

The so called heroes made way as I walked through. As I move past them the leader called out to me again.

Priest:”Everyone just leave, get your families and try to leave the Alliance.”

Hero One:”What about the demon invasion.”

Priest:”It doesn’t matter, if we can’t even fight off one man how can we make any difference in the demon invasion?”

The heroes quietly left as I moved forward on my own unimpeded. The civilians and city folk who saw me cleared the way as I walked through the streets and towards the Palace. I checked the map for the location of Princess Arla. She was the one whom I wanted to kill first because she was the one who instigated all of the incidents.

The heroes who won’t defend their King, it happened faster than I thought it would. I guess so many people dying day after day then me leaving might have given them time to think about it.

Everyone avoided me at the capital as I made my way towards where Arla was located. The Princess was in her room with elite soldiers guarding from all angles. Hunte was locked in a cellar also guarded and without sunlight.

The Princess was in comfort while Hunte was locked away which made me question what was really going on. It didn’t matter, I was going to kill Arla today.

I approached the palace and the elite soldiers guarding drew their swords.

Elites:”Slay the intruder!”

I drew steel and cut them down. It was too easy, like playing on a god mode in a video game.

Elites:”Keep going after him!”

Hundreds of soldiers poured from the castle and attacked but I kept killing them. After enough of them had died the few that were left were cowering.

Elite:”Monster! Monster!”

I saw the sun was now setting and so I left to go home and eat dinner. I guess I’ll have to wait to kill King Bide tomorrow.

King Bide was in his throne room when messengers came to give him information about the attack on the castle earlier that day. The heroes were all gone, they didn’t fight Roy at the gate but let him pass and none of the civilians did anything to stop him.

Messenger:”Those who are part of the council are also requesting to leave stating that with the start of the demon invasion they want to be closer to their home.”

King Bide:”How many soldiers does the capital have left, have we pulled them back from other activities?”

Messenger:”Yes your majesty, we’re pulling back every soldier who has ever served.”

King Bide:”Stop the council from leaving, bolster the guards and start conscripting from the civilians, especially those who did not to stop Roy from coming to the Palace all need to have their lives on the line.”

Messenger:”Your Majesty, the monarchs will revolt.”

King Bide:”Then put them all in a room and kill them and blame it on Roy so their kingdoms will see him as their enemy. Do it in secret.”

The messenger was shocked at those words and realized how dangerous the King was at this point. King Bide was unstable and was losing control over his own inhibitions.

Messenger:”Yes your majesty.”

King Bide then called over a man clad in black.

King Bide:”Go and capture my daughter, tie her up and bring Prince Hunte along with her tomorrow to the front of the castle gates and follow my instructions.”

That night the monarchs of all the surrounding kingdoms were killed in their sleep. Their guards were slaughtered as the heroes they had called were no longer there. The only member left for the Council was King Bide but he didn’t let anyone else know of the deaths of the monarchs.

I went my usual route to the entrance of the capital. Beipan was gradually becoming more familiar to me. As I walked toward the entrance I was surprised to see a man dressed in black who greeted me.

Man in Black:”Sir Roy, King Bide has a present for you. Follow us, we have no reason to fight.”

Roy:”Sure,whatever.”

I followed them as they took me to a warehouse. It was heavily guarded with soldiers and there was no one else around it. I walked in with them with those men in black armor everywhere covering every entrance. On the inside I saw two familiar faces both tied up and gagged.

It was Prince Hunte and Princess Arla. There were tears streaming down their eyes as I stood by. If I had checked the map then I probably would have known they were here but I was just doing whatever I wanted.

Roy:”What’s the meaning of this?”

Man in Black:”King Bide, his majesty of the Beipan Kingdom concedes and will give you his children. He seeks peace.”

Really? Peace like this? This is completely pathetic and it makes me angry! Weren’t they going to hold on until the end and fight me? Instead they do this?

Roy:”Very well.”

I took out my sword and chopped off Prince Hunte’s head, then I follow and cut off Princess Arla’s head. When the heads rolled on the floor I still felt empty inside. Justin wasn’t coming back but at least I avenged him here.

The problem was the mastermind was still alive.

I didn’t want to talk to the man in black. I didn’t see any point in talking to him or any of them. I turned to leave the warehouse and on my way out he once again called out to me.

Man in Black:”Sir Roy, does this conclude all of our business then?”

Roy:”With you yes, but not with King Bide.”

Man in Black:”You’re still going to kill the King?”

Roy:”Do you plan to stop me?”

The Man in Black stepped back and said nothing. All of them went silent but I didn’t feel like doing anything else that day so I left.

Erisu and Eliza were using the avatars in the demon world and I felt the steady stream of points coming in making all of the soldiers stronger.

Eliza saw me coming as she was getting ready to charge at a demon general.

Eliza:”Roy, you’re here? Have you completed your revenge?”

Roy:”Only part of it. Prince Hunte and Princess Arla are dead but King Bide remains.”

Eliza:”I see, so go and complete it then. Why are you here?”

Eliza moved forward and cut the general in half, the soldiers came from behind silently as they killed the screaming demons. The battlefield looked chaotic but the demons were slain quickly, many of them.  Thousands more demons started attacking from the opposite side but the system soldiers don’t panic, they simply get in formation an attack.

Roy:”I just don’t understand why King Bide sacrificed both his children. He had his own men give them to me.”

Eliza stopped in the middle of battle and returned to my side. The level five dragon warriors flew over the battlefield while the siege teams sent large fire bombs into the castle. In front of the siege machines were spearmen, archers and the normal soldiers all had bows raining down millions of arrows upon demon forces.

Eliza:”It’s his ego. King Bide always had an ego and was willing to sacrifice everyone around himself in order to satisfy it. That’s why he had constantly pushed for a Kingdom Alliance.”

Roy:”But to kill his children?”

Eliza:”He probably killed every other monarch, let alone his children. Rulers like him will sacrifice everyone and everything in order to maintain their own power, and then pretend like everything is going well or that they’re doing others a favor.”

Sounds like a president I know who had a similar name.

Roy:”Then what should I do?”

Eliza:”End it. Just go and end it.”

We couldn’t see each other’s faces in our avatar form. Erisu was further down on another battlefield fighting against a large group of demons. She took the form of the Water mage and brought the entire path of water mages calling forth a massive flood to drown an incredible amount of demons.
