Chapter 71
I saw the Lich’s apparition looking over the dead bodies in front of me. That was to be expected considering the fact I was killing his soldiers. Who wouldn’t want to investigate?
I called out to him, or was it a she?
Roy:”Hey Lich!”
The apparition seemed startled as it turned to me. It was a skeleton face so I couldn’t tell what emotions it had. Do undead creatures even have emotions?
According to the book a Lich may have the personality of the sorcerer it was when it was alive.
Lich:”Who are you?”
The Lich spoke in a demanding voice. It showed it’s irritation by floating quickly over to me. The apparition can’t harm me, it’s just an extension of the Lich’s consciousness it can use for spying.
Lich:”You burn your own dead? Where are those burning mages you had before?”
Roy:”I have no answer for you, except I am going to come down to your lair and destroy you. I know how to get there.”
The Lich became quiet for a moment while staring at me. I was sure that he might be contemplating, but you wonder if the undead Lich can think when he has no brain. Also the lack of emotion that bones can show meant you couldn’t tell.
Lich:”Foolish mortal, you won’t be able to find my chamber.”
Roy:”Oh really?”
Lich:”What’s this! What!”
The Lich apparition disappeared.
I gather the soldiers and start moving towards the direction of the Lich’s layer. It was a very large tomb but I could easily find the exit point. Besides, I had to the teleportation jewel to protect my life so I don’t think Sperra should be worried about me.
—
Sperra was running around the darkest depths of the Tomb by herself. She had her night vision eyes that let her see in the dark as she killed the undead that approached her quickly and viciously.
Sperra:”Roy, give me back Roy! Don’t you dare touch him! I’ll kill you if you touch him! I’ll tear this whole tomb apart!”
She broke through several walls, smashing through the dirt like a wrecking ball hitting a sand castle. The Lich took notice and became frightened as he noted that there was nothing he had that could fight against her. The Lich had hoped she would be stuck there for weeks while he made his getaway, and didn’t expect her to be breaking through the Tomb.
The Lich watched with his apparition what Sperra was doing as she continued to smash through the walls. Not only was she destroying his tomb but every undead he had preciously saved up was also being ripped apart. The foundation of the deepest parts of the tomb was coming apart.
Lich:”Stop! If you stop I will not harm the boy. Just leave the Tomb, I’ll lead you out.”
Sperra stopped and stared at the Lich who seemed irritated and a little surprised. There was something wrong and Sperra thought he was lying.
Sperra:”Did you kill him? Did you kill him?”
Sperra went even more crazy and took a deep breath. If the Lich had flesh and bone then his face would show a horrified look. He had has undead monsters fight against the five exterminators in the past but never once did he directly view them. Most of the time he would use the corpses of powerful demons and heroes to fight, but now that all he had were the weak inhabitants of this tomb there was nothing but fear within.
Sperra was in the deepest part of the cave, she would not listen to reason and so he decided to try and leave the tomb instead but on the other side was an army of soldiers also killing all of his undead.
Lich:”That boy has no mana or energy, yet the army seems to be summoned to him.”
—
Compared to Sperra who seemed to be running around like a mad woman deep within the Tomb’s inner passages, I was much closer to the throne room where the Lich was. I could also see him moving around and it looked like he was preparing to escape.
I left soldiers around the cave areas where I passed, I added soldiers to my numbers since I got points for killing the undead and I steadily moved to block all his paths of retreat.
It’s quite the disappointment however, since compared to Sperra, and the rest of my moms the monsters on this continent were actually very weak. When I looked at the map to take information about the people on the continent the strongest five were my four mothers then the Empress.
After that the Valkyries were the strongest group, but the rest of the human kingdoms and other races combined had individuals that could pose a threat. Based on the numbers they weren’t stronger individually than them but they would be able to win against them with overwhelming numbers similar to how my army was able to fight and kill the Goblin Emperor despite each individual soldier being much weaker.
When I thought about it more, even though my moms were influential they still were not the top power on the continent and not by a long shot.
Those powerful individuals still posed a great threat to me as long as my soldiers couldn’t stop them completely, my ability is cancelled out if I’m captured or knocked out and everyone disappears. I still don’t know much about the heroic spirits, only when I reach a million soldiers can I see them on a map and even then I need them to willingly submit.
If they’re as strong as any of those powerful individuals on the continent then me walking close to them is already a huge threat to my safety.
That’s a problem for another time though, it’s time to kill the Lich.
Lich:”Tell that woman to stop!”
The Lich’s apparition had suddenly appeared in front of me. I was startled but I didn’t let it show.
Roy:”How can I when she’s so far away?”
Lich:”I’ll teleport you to her and I’ll let you two leave. I won’t bother either of you and I’ll stop the undead from attacking. I can tell you are a great summoner where you can bring soldiers to you. I am similar to you but my ability works with the dead. We are like brothers you and I.”
Roy:”I don’t recall having any brothers born from the same woman. Also how can I trust you when you are trying to kill me? Didn’t you side with the demons?”
Lich:”No, I never sided with anyone. I was simply a weak Lich trying to protect myself five hundred years ago. You are human are you not? You were not there! That woman you came with was a demon on the battlefield. She killed so much of my power. Her and her four other companions were terrors! True Terrors. Many demons died to them and we couldn’t retreat!”
I know he’s pleading and he’s trying to justify himself but I really don’t have sympathy for undead creatures. I’m sorry, I can’t develop sympathy for them.
Roy:”Alright, then how about you let me kill you and I’ll give you a quick death? I’ll use light so it won’t hurt. I mean, you’ve lived for hundreds… I don’t know you’ve been around for a long time so maybe it’s time to accept mortality.”
Lived? Telling an undead they lived just seemed wrong.
The Lich kept silent.
Roy:”You’re unlucky because there are no corpses that you can actually use in here. If you had the corpse of a powerful adventurer or if you could kill my mom you’d be a pain to fight against, but you can’t kill my mom with what you have and even though my soldiers are weak they are still strong enough to kill your monsters. You just got unlucky, and I’m also making sure you can’t escape.”
The apparition disappeared. I looked at the map. It was obvious mom was having a lot of fun destroying all of the walls in her way.
All I could do is continue onward.
—
The Lich floated in his chamber unsure what was going to happen next. He was uncomfortable with facing either opponent. A summoner’s weakness was his own body, yet the summoner’s soldiers who were indistinguishable from living beings did not fear death. They did not require sacrifices or objects to be used. They only spawned into existence around the summoner and marched fighting his undead forces.
How much mana did the summoner have? Summoners would normally summon high level monster and focus their mana on one being rather than spread it out over thousands.
Lich:”That coward of a human.”
The Lich had sorely miscalculated and for that he knew his ending would come soon. In this case he decided he would be better off trying to poison the Beast woman. Even if all of his undead died in the process, her corpse by itself would allow him to gather much more.
He gathered his forces and moved away from Roy and started to monitor the movements of Sperra as she ran around erratically waiting for her to grow more tired. He had a vial of dark poison that he could inject her with while she was distracted and so moved within the dark.
Sperra frantically moved about some more and found that she was only gettin more loss.
Sperra:”That Lich! Show yourself! You threaten Roy and I’ll hunt you down with your scent no matter where you go. You can’t kill my son!”
Son?
The Lich after hearing that became suspicious. The young man was a human and she was a beastman. He would have to be half but the Lich couldn’t sense any part of him being a beastman.
The Lich tried to trick her.
Lich:”Your son is still alive, if you kill yourself I will let him live.”
Sperra turned toward the apparition. There was nothing but a fierce scowl. If the Lich could react he would have splurged out and ran away.
Sperra:”If my Son is dead I’ll make sure you don’t die easily. I’ll capture you and take your to Dhalia and we’ll torture you for as long as we can until your soul burns until your mind is completely gone.”
Lich:”Then he is already dead, I’m going to kill him.”
Sperra:”I will find you and kill you!”
As Sperra started frantically running again the Lich began to gather his forces. The thousands of undead were all he had left, they were barely an army. He could kill a village but he couldn’t beat Sperra on a frontal assault.
Sperra was more powerful than a village. The Lich could only remember the demons attacking the human kingdoms and the elves and how he could turn the dead into his own army.
The time flowed by quickly as Sperra moved and the Lich brought his undead into formation. They were moving away from the entrance where Roy was moving in. Against Roy the poison wouldn’t work but against Sperra force wouldn’t.
—
I continued to move into the tomb steadily. I figured that it was easier to just ride a horse so I had a Calvary man move forward. The soldiers remained at their posts in case the Lich would come out but what I saw was strange, he was moving in the direction of Sperra.
I wasn’t sure how strong Sperra was, but I knew for a fact she was worth an amount of points beyond the maximum. The maximum was 1 billion. I noticed that once any creature or being got to 1 billion there was no way I could get more points from them after.
Or at least…
(You can get more than one billion points per kill after you have maxed out the soldier count, there will be different options for spending points after).
That was the system message and something I guess I could look forward too. Besides that, I get the feeling that those who are worth more than a billion points… there isn’t really a strength gauge on the map.
When I think about it, I’m not even sure why I think my moms are the most powerful, since I can’t actually tell.
The Lich was moving towards Sperra and I’m not sure why when I’m supposed to be an easier target. I was going to lose the points I could get from him. Well, it wasn’t as if I was planning on using him for points anyway, but since I’m out here I sent a few soldiers of the entrance to begin to hunt the wild lands.
—
Sperra was tearing to pieces every enemy that came to her. The force of her hits was enough to grind bones into dust. As she continued to kill the undead the Lich silently tried to bide his time with the poinson.
The Lich would only have one chance and so he casted several spells into himself to become undetectable. The poison once it went into Sperra’s blood stream should weaken her to a point where it would be easy to kill, and then when he added her to his army most of her strength would be ready for him to use at any time.
When the Demon Lord returned he would already have an army ready to go with those she killed. The Lich could only think of his own success.
Sperra:”Come out and fight me! Stop sending your undead! Coward Lich!”
Provocations don’t work against the undead because they did not have the same sense of pride as a living being. The Lich continued to wait.
Sperra:”You think you are smart but you’re just delaying your own end! Give Roy back to me!”
The Lich couldn’t stop Roy himself. Roy was someone who had summoning abilities that countered his own. The fact Roy’s abilities were unknown to Sperra meant that it would continue to play with her emotions.
The Lich bided his time as Sperra continued to thrash about. The entire inner tomb was destroyed, all the corridors and dark passage ways. The catacombs where burial items had been placed next to the bodies he used had rocks and dirt piling up on top from the powerful vibrations that were caused by a furious beast woman.
