Chapter 70
After leaving Roy to sleep Sperra sighed to herself thinking that perhaps this wasn’t a good idea. She had been wanting to hunt the Lich before and his power was said to have waned which was why he hid himself.
The monsters she found were also weak, and he hadn’t made a move on civilization in a long time. There were only remnants of some dead villages with no bodies, and it was assumed he reanimated them into his army. A lich could only gain power when he was around death.
It was unlikely he made this tomb himself. It was unlikely that the monsters in this tomb were part of his army years ago, yet Sperra still believed in herself that she could kill him on her own and finish the job from nearly five hundred years ago.
She moved down the narrow corridor looking for traps and other things. The sharp eyes could see in the dark and she was able to use her strength to smash through the traps she could find.
Some undead lizard monsters were seen running down the hall towards her as she walked forward. Traps were triggered but arrows don’t affect undead as much as they do the living as they had fewer vital points.
Sperra:”This is boring.”
Sperra went forward and fought the undead lizards. With bare hands she tore them apart easily as she continued to move forward without problems. There were hundreds of undead lizards and they came out of every cavern attacking her back and forth until she got to the end.
Sperra wasn’t out of breath but there was a floating transparent image behind her, it was the Lich in a transparent form, mostly a skeleton with red glowing eyes.
Lich:”Who is the one you brought with you?”
Sperra’s eyes widened with her glowing eyes in the dim light shining in a striking glare. She had been so used to hunting alone she forgot Roy was vulnerable. Caught up in killing the monsters she had moved.
Sperra:”You better not have done anything to him!”
Lich:”After I teleport you away, I’ll let him starve to death. I’ve sealed up the entrance so he can’t leave.”
The Lich laughed as Sperra rushed back only to encounter traps. This time a portal appeared in front of her as she was running at top speed and she found that she was now in another location in the Tomb. She couldn’t get a sense for where she was as the Lich’s form floated near her.
Lich:”You might be strong but you can’t be everywhere you want. That boy is weak.”
The Lich’s laughter echoed in the large tomb as Sperra now realized her mistake. She was angry but she had been too arrogant regarding her own abilities. Xeneva, Alondra and Dhalia would kill her if they knew, but she felt she would kill herself since she was more attached to Roy after his birth than anything else.
—
I heard foot steps approaching me. Sperra was far away, and what was coming were skeletons. I had no idea what they wanted to do to me but I wasn’t going to sit back and let them kill me.
Yeah, I summoned a lot of soldiers everywhere. I was nearly at a million, and if I counted all the monsters in here they only numbered a few thousand at most. I had an equivalent amount of level two soldiers to use.
This wasn’t actually going to be hard then. When I checked the map the Lich was only worth about five million points, so he was even weaker than the Goblin Emperor I killed with far fewer forces.
Only thing he had going for him was the fact that the average undead was stronger than the average goblin and he had more variety from lizards, mummies, skeletons and a few other things. They also don’t get tired or feel fear, but those advantages are useless against my soldiers.
I could only smile as I brought out hundreds of soldiers at once.
Roy:”Attack!”
The soldiers marched forward with me at the center and we came up against the undead. The creatures fought and they died along with the soldiers who fought against them with swords. When the undead were shattered the fire magic users came out and burned the corpses and remains to ashes so they couldn’t be reanimated.
That’s the power of knowledge. I read a lot of books I know their weaknesses.
Skeleton soldiers came forward. I pulled out the light mages. They shined holy light, the skeletons fall apart, the other soldiers run forward and hold off the undead. Fire mages come out and burn the bones to ashes. Rinse and repeat.
The points kept coming in.
—
The Lich felt the death of the undead he had sent to collect the boy that came with Sperra. He was fearful of Sperra but hoping to have her locked in the large Tomb for a number of days while he planned his escape.
The nose of Sperra was not one he could avoid one she was on his trail so he made more plans to prevent her following. The strength of a Lich was based on which corpses he reanimated. By himself he was weak and he understood that very well.
Lich:”My undead are killed by soldiers? Where are the soldiers coming from?”
He grasped his consciousness onto the undead he had sent to the entrance only to find that they were quickly dispatched. Many of them died and their ashes burned.
Lich:”An Army! Who would walk an army across all the bad terrain between here? How did an army get here?”
The Lich was frustrated! I’ll turn them into my army then!
The Lich was dangerous after a demon invasion because of all the fresh corpses that would come up on both sides. The dead demons could become undead minions and the fresh corpses could be zombie soldiers that could still utilize the muscle and flesh. It made every death something that could be used against the surviving humans.
His armies however were decimated by the previous Holy Maiden from the church with her light magic and holy healing which was lethal, while the exterminator party moved to destroy him.
The Lich sent his transparent ghost-like avatar over to the battlefield where the army passed on by so he could turn the corpses into more fighters but found that there was nothing there but dirt and ashes.
