Stepmom-con – Ch. 48

Chapter 48

While fighting we had seen a lot of victims who had lost an arm or a leg. The bigger the goblin base, the more human victims captured that were tortured for fun. Seeing the way they were cut to pieces and many of the horrific injuries, it prompted me to ask Dhalia what the extent healing healing magic could go too.

Dhalia had explained that healing can prevent you from dying and heal most injuries, but it can’t regrow lost limbs or body parts. That requires a more powerful method, but she said there wasn’t a point knowing about it because it was impractical.

I never asked further than that.

Justin:”Alright you ready to charge in?”

Roy:”I’ve also put some groups of a thousand soldiers each on the east and west flanks so we can charge in all at once.”

The terrain was a forest which made it easier for creatures with smaller bodies to move about.

Justin:”You know if you just got some dragon or gryphon riders I think we could beat them easily.”

Roy:”Air units are too expensive for right now and they’ll attract too much attention. You know Dhalia is already finding our activity peculiar. We should just use normal soldiers for now and focus on increasing numbers.”

Justin:”Okay, let’s get to twenty five million soldiers first. Focus only on common soldiers and the bombers, the regular bombers that cost 100 points each. That way we can at least do some sieging.”

Roy:”That makes, but we’ve changed the plan like four times. Let’s just pick one and stick to it. Also, customization three should combine every magic, though it’s going to be very expensive point-wise.”

Justin:”Alright.”

The idea of having legions of soldiers, even if they’re weak and common was great. Common soldiers could fight anything and even if they were to die they can wear down the enemy as cannon fodder.  They were also the most versatile since they could switch between bow, sword and spear.

Justin:”I still feel like an idiot for making a sword and shield soldier, even if the scimitar is different from the swordsman I could have just taken a swordsman.”

Roy:”We probably wasted the first two customizations, but it doesn’t really matter as long as the third one counts.”

If I added the Dragon rider with all the magical abilities plus a weapon, the third customization would cost well over 10,000. I hadn’t memorized how much it costs but the dragon on it’s own cost over five thousand. Add in all the magic, the weapon… it’ll be extremely expensive to get it to level seven.

Justin:”Let’s just do it.”

The soldiers began to charge in with swords and spears in the front and archers in the back. The Goblins sounded the alarm and brought out many champions as well as the hordes of smaller goblins.

I watched as the soldiers clashed with the goblins in the forest and the soldiers were winning. When the champions came out they followed my intended tactics and moved to outmaneuver them using superior numbers as I threw bombs at them.

Though arrows were harder to aim in the forest, due to the fact I didn’t care if the soldiers died to friendly fire, they continued to fight the goblins. Justin entered the fray, slicing through the goblins and killing the goblin champions from behind.

With the dual swords I had soldiers cover me while I attacked goblins. The soldiers didn’t say anything and only fought, which meant all the screams and voices came from goblins. The forest was soon painted red with goblin blood as we continued to move forward.

The goblin warlord eventually came out screaming in gibberish. It had a club in his hand and he smashed it around and angry attacked the soldiers. Several of them died.

Justin:”He’s strong, he’s not like the champions.”

Roy:”Seems that way.”

Justin:”If we were here in our real bodies we’d definitely be scared and already dead.”

Roy:”Seems that way.”

Justin:”We’re almost done killing all the other goblins, it’d be a good idea to focus on that first, then him after. You’ll lose a lot of common soldiers though.”

Roy:”Seems that way.”

Justin:”Will you say something else d*** it! We’re doing a good serious thing for the world right now getting rid of these guys!”

I paused for a moment before deciding what words to say next.

Roy:”Seems that way.”

Justin:”I give up.”

I had to laugh at that. Still it’s nice to have fun doing things like this. This was kind of like playing a video game but having fun while doing so. The War Lord was all that was left and he was surrounded.

I took control of the Dual bladed bomber, and Justin got his sword and shield ready. The level one soldiers were armed with arrows and shot at the war lord directly and though he could block he couldn’t block in all directions.

Arrows pierced through his back as he guarded his neck.

With all the hits the War Lord got on his knees and began to beg.

War Lord:”Please, let me go. I will go live peacefully. Please!”

Justin:”He’s begging for his life?”

Roy:”Don’t waste time.”

I threw a bomb at him and it exploded.

Plus 10,000 points.

It was expected but we really made a killing here. I can add a lot more to the ranks.

Justin:”You didn’t even hear him out?”

Roy:”Goblins get children by r***ing females and from what I’ve seen here there are bones of female adventurers and villagers. You think he’s going to keep quiet? Why do we even need to hear him out? Just kill him, besides now I have to re-distribute the points.”

Justin:”Man, you’re boring. Don’t you want to see the emotional moment when the War Lord changes his ways because his life was spared. The he tries to become a better person… or well better goblin.”

Roy:”I’m sure he’s been spared before by adventurers only to learn from his mistakes and to go and kill them again. The goblin isn’t human. It doesn’t think like a human, humans are different.”

Justin:”What about bandits?”

Roy:”Bandits are human, we shouldn’t kill humans if we can help it.”

Justin:”Alright then. I think you overvalue human life too much when you watch anime.”

Roy:”Life is valuable. Let’s just keep increasing the army by hunting monsters alright?”

Justin:”Sure man. No complaints.”

I wasn’t sure what Justin was getting at but it didn’t matter. The fact is I was admin and I could revoke his user rights, though to be honest I doubt he would go against it because he’s always been someone who’s a good friend.

Even if our opinions are different.

Justin:”Alright, this should wrap everything up, how many points did we get?”

Roy:”We got a lot, I’m going to get at least one of each of the 22 standard soldiers including the magic ones this time and I’ll throw the rest into the level one soldiers.”

Justin:”You realize that maxing out the level two soldiers and onward will cost the same for each subsequent level right?”

Roy:”Yeah, but level one is the base. You can’t build a pyramid well without finishing the base first.”

Since level one soldiers were so numerous and cheap, spreading them out to different areas means summoning an army to fight in those areas would be easy. Twenty five million was not a small number at all.

I could probably make nations give up if I sent them all at once to attack. Maybe.

Justin:”I’m calling it a day, the map shows no goblins in the immediate area. There are more powerful goblins further north, something like a goblin emperor or something, but it’s beyond the area where most of the human kingdoms are.”

Roy:”I’ll send some that way then, and maybe we can also set up a base for us to go to incase anything bad happens.”

Justin:”Good idea man.”

Roy:”We can try conquering some dungeons while we’re sending soldiers up there.”

Justin:”Dungeons are a good idea, we have so many lives now it can be all trial and error.”

Roy:”The map can search out where the stronger monsters are forming so I’m assuming those are where the dungeons will be. We’ll do some scouting in the morning.”

We both clock out and leave.

The Nobles of a country were busy in a war room talking about the goblins who were amassing. The Goblin Warlord had become a problem and many people had already died to them. Trade was already being disrupted as it was in the middle of their territory.

This was a Kingdom not far from the Adventure Capital and they had placed a job there as well. They could not low-ball it anymore and now had to increase the price hoping they could attract more adventurers.

Duke Ham: “This War Lord is going to be a problem in my territory. The King will demote me if we are not able to handle it on our own.”

A soldier burst into the door.

Soldier:”Your grace the scouts have returned with the report.”

The soldier handed the message to the table and the Duke picked it up. He began to read it with widened eyes and the other nobles were there watching him read. They said little.

Noble One:”Is there something in the report?”

Noble Two:”Bad news?”

The Duke’s widened eyes turned into a smile then he laughed.

Duke Ham:”Incredible! Incredible, those Silent Soldiers are indeed protectors sent from the gods. Everything in here talks about what the scouts saw and how they killed the goblins then after killing they dispersed. Some of the scouts tried to follow but when they lost sight of them it was as if most of them vanished into thin air.”

Noble One: “Vanished into thin air? Is it possibly a summoner?”

Duke Ham:”What summoner can summon thousands of soldiers like that? The soldiers were flesh and blood but their dead bodies also disappeared. Summoners have their summons disappear upon death. It could only mean that they returned to the gods after their death or mission was complete!”

The Nobles parked with joy. Duke Ham himself went to see the sight of the large battle against the goblin Warlord in the forest and found that it was littered with the small dead bodies of goblins. There were champions there blown apart as and the War Lord’s club was found that some witnesses from the villages had seen.

The Duke got down off his horse and bowed to the sky.

Duke Ham:”I thank the gods for rescuing my land, and I thank them also for sending the heroine.”

At the Adventurer guild there was a message passed by magic to Dhalia which told her of the Silent Soldiers. It was from Silver and Dhalia read it with a bit of curiosity. If the War Lord was taken care of then the guild also lost some commission however she was not too worried about that since the goblins didn’t cost much money to them.

Still the Silent Soldiers were a mystery even to her as she wondered who the summoner was.
