Chapter 40
I looked around, there were dried leaves and shrubs, and the goblins had been cooking something in a small dirty pot. The contents looked like some meat I couldn’t identify, but since this body doesn’t need to eat there was no worry there.
Roy: “You know what I have a better idea.”
I summon all the extra bodies, we were at 8 total and switched the weapons to axes.
Justin: “What’s this idea?”
Roy: “Let’s take a lot of burnables and smoke them out instead. I’m sure they’re sleeping during the day and these outside are just keeping an eye out. If they feel they can’t win the fight then they’ll go in and summon the others.”
The soldier bodies gather lots of wood and we began throwing them into the entrance. Tried to cover it up then we lit the fire. The fire seemed to spread into the cave as the smoke went down.
Roy: “At the very least they might die of carbon monoxide poisoning.”
Justin: “Good idea, let’s try it.”
We waited there for a few minutes then I saw the counter go up. The points began to increase so I peaked into the hole. Goblins were trying to get out and some of them were running through the fire, burning and dying.
Looks like some easy points. Next time we should probably try and bring some oil with us. Killing goblins doesn’t have to always be a straight up fight. They were small and annoying. If I had enough soldiers I figured I could just brute force into their nests and kill them next time.
Justin: “You feel that? Something is coming.”
Roy: “Something?”
I felt the foot steps coming out of the cave. It was something quite large. The fire was put out by its foot steps as other goblins came out following behind.
The giant goblin had a name above it, it seemed the system now classified them. ‘Goblin Champion’ was what it was called. There was a goblin mage, a goblin foot soldier and several others which were worth less points, but the champion was worth 100. That means I can get a level two soldier… but it would just be one life wouldn’t it?
No, focus on killing this first.
Justin: “If you don’t want to lose your other lives have them retreat. This guy seems to be the boss.”
Roy: “Boss?”
Justin: “Just like in games man. I’m thinking this is kind of like a game. Let’s learn its attack pattern and use two or three more lives if we have to to bring him down.”
I don’t know why i was afraid for a moment. I’m not going to die even if the soldier dies. I command the few other soldiers to run and retrieve back into the system when they’re out of sight.
Justin: “I’ll try and take on the big guy, do the clean up on the little ones around so they don’t bother me. You’ve kind of gotten used to hitting them already.”
Roy: “Got it.”
I began to fight and kill the goblins. It became more and more comfortable as I controlled the body. Since the body didn’t get tired, I just had to continue moving and paying attention to the surroundings as I killed more and more goblins. Those that shoot arrows were avoided and those who had magic were targeted.
I watched as Justin squared off against the champion and went back and forth trying to dodge the movements. Playing video games and thinking of this body as a virtual character made controlling it much more simple.
Justin missed a dodge and the champion goblin slammed the body into the ground. The summoned body was dead. I frantically killed more goblins and tried to avoid the champion but once it locked onto me I couldn’t escape.
Justin: “Stab it at least in the leg when it gets to you.”
Roy: “You can still talk!”
Justin: “Well, it’s sort of like a team chat, anyone you recognize as a user can talk with you through this system. It’s not this body’s voice but that voice transmitting through the system.”
Roy: “Alright I’ll stab.”
The sword went into the large goblins thigh as it roared then killed the soldier I controlled. The two soldiers we used were now dead and would take seven days to recover.
Justin and I woke up in the field of grass.
Roy: “Let’s tell the maids we’re taking a nap or go rent an inn bed or something since I just got gold coins today. That way we won’t be bothered in our rooms. If we’re going to take out this goblin champion then we must not be interrupted.”
Justin:”Going to our rooms is better since we don’t know how long it takes for the champion to heal.”
Roy:”Alright. I got about thirty points so we are a net positive of one life and every seven days the ones that died are available again.”
Justin: “That means if we keep killing goblins then you can control an army doesn’t it? There was also level two and three?”
Roy: “There is, and we can get one level two with a hundred points. The champion is worth about two hundred so we can get one of the level two soldiers and fill out the rest to make ten.”
Justin: “That’s a good idea, since we have so few soldiers having a more powerful one for now would be better. It’ll get more and more expensive for every level.”
Roy: “Well with ten required of the previous level, to get to level three we’d need to accumulate 1000 points for one, after paying 1000 points for ten level 2’s. Goblins aren’t worth much at all.”
Justin: “Then we should prioritize moving up in levels since numbers will come regardless.”
Roy: “Sounds good.”
We both went to our rooms after telling Catherine we were tired and wanted to nap and not to bother us until we came out ourselves. As a maid she responded appropriately and stated she wouldn’t bother us unless Dhalia asks her too.
We lay in bed and summon the soldiers again.
Justin: “Alright Roy, this time let me take the lead and let’s have a few of the controlled soldiers be archer support. As long as they keep shooting at the champion goblin we should be able to distract him while we go after him.”
Roy: “Alright we’ll do that.”
We got back to the lone soldier and this time summoned all but three. With the added three soldiers we have seven total, and we had killed most of the goblins already. It was just that champion that was left.
We make it back to the site.
Justin: “Should we smoke the hole again?”
Roy: “Probably should. I don’t think going down that hole is a good idea.”
Justin: “Alright, but we have no fire.”
Roy: “I’ll go in then, at least I can take over an archer if anything happens. You’ve been learning the goblin’s attack patterns better than me.”
Justin: “Let’s do that then.”
I walked into the goblin den. It was hard to see and it was dark but as I got deeper and deeper I realized that there wasn’t much going on. There was a faint light and glowing mushrooms that the goblins seemed to eat.
It was a bit strange walking through. As I got to the center I saw the goblin champion seeding wolves with his large member.
What the f***!
I did not need to see that. The champion seemed to be angry and wanting to make more children in order to attack again.
Roy: “Justin, the champion is dancing with wolves.”
Justin: “Dancing? That doesn’t sound right… dancing with wolves? Are you trying to make a movie reference or something?”
Roy: “No! I’m not, dancing alright… it’s innuendo for something else.”
Justin: “Innuendo? What do you mean? Look just tell it to me straight.”
I don’t know why it’s so hard for me to say it. Screw it.
Roy: “The Champion is f***ing wolves okay!”
There was an awkward silence.
Justin: “Well is he distracted?”
Roy: “I think so.”
Justin: “Then go stab him in the back of the neck.”
Roy:”That does seem like a good idea.”
It’s not like I’d die if this fails, I’d just lose one life and I have a few more to go. Alright screw it, let’s do it!
