Stepmom-con – Ch. 38

Chapter 38

I made it to the edge of town and summoned a soldier, then I had that soldier make his way out. At the adventurer guild I found there was a request for killing goblins, since the soldier doesn’t get tired I set him to make his way there while avoiding others.

The summoned soldiers couldn’t talk, even if I took control of them I couldn’t talk through them. They had no voice. I went home where Catherine was taking care of the mansion with the other unemployed maids and rushed to my room where I then took control of the soldier.

I summoned two others to walk with me. I never had a chance to test this out before but now that I can I realized how awesome it is. The body doesn’t get tired, I feel like I’m there and if it dies I won’t die. It’s like I have ten lives but I can use them all at once.

They ran across the forest and avoided the deeper areas as I made them go towards the small village near the city that was apparently being bothered by goblins. When I finally reached found the goblin tracks and made my way to their den where I saw  a dozen goblins there. They were small.

I remember watching an anime once where goblins might be weak but a ton of them together cause problems. I don’t want to lose my spot so I’ll summon three soldiers and try to kill one or two at a time. No, I’ll just use one at a time since the soldiers can’t control themselves well.

In the soldier uniform I went out armed with a spear figuring the longer reach could let me kill them easier. I should be able to kill them all since they’re small. I can kill a dozen, and there are point values over their head. I can see that some are worth 0.12 points, while others are 1.35, but those ones seem to be the magic casters like I’ve seen in the books. I have to kill those first.

I put another soldier somewhere to hide so I can use up other soldiers if need be and went in with one just to see how strong these guys are. I was now in the avatar of a soldier.

The goblins noticed me as soon as I approached with spear. They surrounded and the leader growled. The green skin on them under the sunlight was ugly to look at but they were so small I didn’t care to be intimidated.

I stabbed my spear out killing one of them, then the others began to attack surrounding me but I waved the spear around quickly. The mage one began a chant and after a few minutes I felt the soldier couldn’t move.

Binding spell!

I can get out of this, I tried to de-summon. That should trick the goblins but a message seemed to appear in front of my eyes.

(Soldiers cannot be summoned or retrieved while in the midsts of battle without admin’s physical presence or body with privileges, you must escape the non-user sight first)

What? What the heck? That wasn’t in the rule book! I thought because I brought them out during the wolf fight that I could do that whenever.

I summoned another soldier this one with a bow and took control of him and started frantically shooting arrows at them. Since it’s arm didn’t get tired I drew the arrows and shot killing a few more but the blinded soldier was killed and left a corpse on the ground.

(Retrieving of corpse only possible when non-users are not looking, unless you are there yourself or use a body with privileges)

The heck? So if it stays there I can never retrieve it as long as the goblins can see it? Then I could really lose all my soldiers for a long time if it’s in an enemy infested area!

I place the corpse of the dead soldier on automatic retrieval so if there is a moment nothing is looking at it, it’ll come back. Are there any more hidden rules?

(No other hidden rules)

It’s mocking me! F***!

Alright. I use the archer to lead them away, the goblins at the entrance began to give chase. As I ran in the soldier’s body I felt the corpse being retrieved and when I was finally out of sight this soldier with a bow also disappeared.

The standard level one soldier was just an average new recruit. Weak and mostly cannon fodder. The goblins just surrounded me, all ten of them would have died against the dozens of goblins.

I have an advantage though, with the summoning and retrieving I can do hit and run.  While the goblins were searching over in a different direction trying to find that soldier, I brought out 9 soldiers. I’ll have them scatter and run if anything happens, which means from now on it’s better if soldiers travel in small groups and I put in orders to escape battle.

The 9 bodies I still had, and 0.25 points to go with it were laughable. I only killed one goblin! No, there has to be a way. If I remember that anime, the guy would do things like entrap goblins, but I don’t know how to build traps.

I’ll do this differently then. I set eight bodies in ambush position with bows. I hide the ninth somewhere out of reach since I need a spawn point after retrieval. This is a lot harder than I expected it to be. If I outnumbered the goblins then I’d just send all of them in at once.

The goblins slowly returned after losing the target and their magic user was one of the first back. A human with longer legs generally didn’t have trouble outrunning a smaller goblin.

Goblins in general were weaker, and according to the book there are stronger variations of them, but the fact of the matter is if goblins are outnumbered they’d die easier. The problem is their ability to propagate using a female of any species, their quick maturity and the fact many are born at once usually means the goblins will always outnumber the humans in a given area.

Kings in this world don’t send their army to fight goblins. It’s similar to the tragic story of villagers being outnumbered and driven away by goblins in that same anime.

Damn.

I took aim with the bow as did the other seven soldiers. They wouldn’t shoot unless I told them. The arrows flew out and killed the magic user. Then they started aiming at different targets and I shot as well. The goblins after most of them died all retreated into the cave. I had 5.62 points total now, almost halfway there before I could summon another soldier.

The 8 bodies including the one I controlled started moving in towards the cave entrance. I wanted to see what was there, but there were many foot steps heard coming from below.

Just how many of them are there? A flood of them began pouring out of the tunnels, maybe a hundred? A hundred is a lot! I can’t!

All the bodies began to run away. I make sure to set them on automatic retrieval when they escape, but some of the goblins are riding wolves.

This is… a massive infestation according to the books I’ve read. This isn’t an F-Rank quest as the board says, but it’s a small village and no one is going to help. The goblins surrounded the soldiers, two of them were surrounded and fought back. A few more goblins died but I lost those two soldiers.

I had seven bodies left, and 6.52 points.

Setting the last body there into hibernation somewhere hidden I realized I stirred up the goblins nest and ran away. I made sure to run in a direction opposite of the village so hopefully the goblins don’t go attack there yet.

I returned my consciousness back to my body and got up. I spent most of the afternoon trying to kill goblins but only killing about nine of them while losing three bodies.

A knock came on my door and it was my two sisters Riss and Liss.

Riss: “Are you not feeling well little brother?”

They both sat next to me, one on each side.

Liss: “Catherine said you went out this morning for a short while but when you came back you went straight to bed.”

Liss put her hand on my head.

Liss: “You don’t have a fever.”

Roy: “I’m fine. I just felt like resting a bit more today.”

Riss: “It’s good to rest. You did grow up in a village where everything is slower. In the city things can get overwhelming just from all the activity.”

Liss: “Yes, a hundred years ago mom raised us both in a small village a well. We ended up sleeping with the entire village.”

They both giggled.

Riss: “Those were the days. Succubi need the male essence unless we’re raising children.”

Liss: “Don’t worry Roy, we know about Justin’s origins and your as well. Mom trusts both of us. We won’t break his heart and since we’re tying ourselves to him we’ll be devoted to him for the rest of his life.”

Roy:”You both don’t have to do that, if he mistreats you then you should both leave him.”

It seemed my words surprised them as there was a sudden awkward silence. I mean, I don’t think Justin will do that but devoting yourself to someone who isn’t worthy of it only leads to suffering in the end.

Liss: “So you really do consider us family then!”

Liss hugged me on my right and Riss my left.

Riss: “We were a bit worried about it, but honestly we both feel it’s the best way to take care of your friend without burdening you.”

Roy: “Why are you both trying to do all this for me? I mean, I really don’t understand why everyone is so willing to do things for me.”

Liss: “You’re loved, that’s all there is too it little brother. Mom loved us as we grew up, now we’re going to love you, your friend and any children you might have in the future. We’ll be aunts, and our children will be cousins of yours.”

Riss: “Family is a beautiful thing when everyone gets along. It’s just whenever we try to shower anyone out there with love they always end up trying to take advantage of us in some way. We don’t get that vibe from you nor Justin so we feel it’s safe.”

Liss: “We just want to love, that’s why we love raising children. The love also prevents us from having to seek out new partners to take in essence as well.”

Riss: “That’s just a little bit of succubus biology for you.”

I was speechless. Aside from the fact they were pinked skinned succubi I couldn’t sense any fairness from them.

Liss: “Come on Roy, let’s go down stairs. Justin is going to have a total of five wives.”

Roy: “Five?”

Liss: “Yes, five. The both of us and the three girls who took him before we met him. I’m sorry you’re going to have to remain a virgin for a few more years because of the promise.”

Why does everyone know I’m a virgin? Like seriously! It’s not like I feel good about this you know! Moms, sisters… other girls…

I sighed.

Riss: “Don’t feel bad, we’ve all seen the heroine and her companions. You’ll be everyone’s envy. Trust your big sisters on this.”

Roy:”No, that isn’t right?”

Another perplexed look.

Riss: “What do you mean?”

Roy: “I mean it’s not right to see her just as a pretty face or a heroine. I mean, that’s not the reason for being with someone… I mean, status shouldn’t be the reason.”

They both paused once more thinking about what I said.

Liss: “In an ideal world perhaps you’re right. Status shouldn’t be a reason to be with someone, but we live in an imperfect world where status often determines one’s attitude towards others. Those of high status have a different attitude than those of lower status, and your status as a reincarnation as well as Justin’s status as a transmigrators makes you both unique.”

Riss: “Yes, so while I will tell you not to think too much of it, it’s a matter you won’t be able to escape. Don’t worry though, we’re your sisters and we’re your family and no matter what happens, Liss and I will be there for you. I promise that.”

Riss winked as she spoke.

Liss: “Now come on, spend some time with us. The two of us are leaving in the morning along with the three adventurer girls that are going to also be with Justin. They want to get some connections in business but Justin will stay behind and keep you company for now.”

Roy: “Why doesn’t he go? I mean, I can go too.”

It might hinder my ability to use the soldiers and such but at the very least I don’t want to drag them down or separate them out of concern for me.

Riss: “Not possible because you have to stay with Auntie Dhalia for these six months. We’ll come back often so don’t you worry. Justin will stay with you and he’ll go with you to your next three destinations. He insisted on it because he says he can’t leave you behind.”

Liss: “What was it he said Riss? ‘Bros before hoes?’ It’s such a funny saying but in a sense it’s pretty accurate.”

Justin just insulted you both and you don’t care?

Riss: “Alright come on, let’s go down now, no more dallying!”

I followed them both down to a pleasant evening where we ate before Dhalia returned, then after that we spent time hearing the stories about the lives of each of the women. I of course didn’t say much but Justin talked about his life in his own world which seemed to fascinate everyone except Dhalia.

Night came, and I just decided to let the soldier remain in hibernation. I’ll talk to Justin about it tomorrow when the rest of them leave.
