Chapter 39
At night Dhalia came to my bed and I was in her arms. I couldn’t resist her as she put her arms around me. It felt like what Xeneva would always do at night. Compared to my previous life where I would always sleep alone, I just couldn’t help but snuggle up against her.
In my heart, she’s definitely a mom to me. When morning came and she was getting up she kissed my forehead and left for the guild. Being in charge often meant she had to be busy managing all the various things.
Vampires generally do not need to sleep like humans do but she came home every night to sleep in the same bed with me. What Riss and Liss said seemed to be right: I was really loved and honestly I didn’t deserve this kind of love.
A parents love was different since children would have to rely on them when they were too young to do things on their own. Yet the parents love them anyway. Not all parents, but there were many examples of parents who did whatever they could for their children. I remembered watching a video about a 96 year old man who was still taking care of his 70+ year old son who was disabled, and he just couldn’t let go of it.
It was both beautiful and sad at the same time. In that regard, as a child I suppose I never wanted to be in a situation where my moms would have to worry about me. I had to figure it out.
An hour later I finally got out of bed and went down to have breakfast. Justin and the five other girls he went to bed with walked down the stairs.
Show off Justin, yeah keep showing off!
I’m not jealous. I promise I’m not jealous.
Justin: “Morning bro, you said you wanted my help on something today?”
Roy: “Yeah. It’s nothing big, just some information in books to go over with you on the monsters in the realm. I needed your take on it.”
Justin: “No problem bro.”
Riss and Liss came over to me and hugged me.
Riss: “Good morning dear little brother.”
Roy: “Morning, Liss and Riss.”
Liss: “The five of us will be leaving after breakfast. Don’t cause too much trouble for Aunt Dhalia alright?”
Roy: “I won’t cause my mom trouble don’t worry.”
After breakfast the five women left and it was only Justin and I in the mansion with the maids. I brought Justin over to the courtyard and told the maids not to come near.
Justin: “What’s up man, what’s this about?”
Roy: “Justin, you have to promise not to tell anyone for now. None of my moms, none of my sisters, and none of your fiancé’s.”
Justin looked at me, squinted then nodded.
Justin: “Alright man… is it because you want to do it with your mom?”
I stared at him for a moment.
Roy: “What! No! It’s not that! What the hell? Why would you think that?”
Justin: “I don’t know, I mean… if I were you I’d want to do it with my moms. They’re like the most beautiful—“
Roy: “Bro! It ain’t about that right now! Bro! Listen! Bro!”
I was a little frantic but I didn’t want to even entertain the idea of committing spiritual incest with my mother’s i this life. Even if they aren’t blood related, they’re still my mom. I don’t want to be another Troy 3.0 or a Dong Chen.
Justin: “Okay man okay! I got it. Still, if you did do it with your mom I wouldn’t blame you alright? Just keep that thought—“
Roy: “Bro!”
Justin was laughing at me.
Justin: “Alright, I’ll stop teasing. I know we’re not talking about monsters though, that was just because it’s something you didn’t want anyone to know about. So what is it if it’s not about banging your own moms.”
Roy: “Man… okay… fine I’m ignoring it! Alright, ignoring it!”
Justin: “Okay, for reals now. For reals.”
I took several deep breaths before revealing this army system that I had. It took us to a sort of character selection area where Justin was automatically registered as a user. All the left over soldiers in storage were in front of us and frozen in time.
There was one soldier that was transparent with a day and hour counter above him. It was to signify that he was still waiting to reform the body.
Justin: “What’s all this? What the heck?”
Roy: “It’s the army system I was given when I came here.”
Justin: “Are we really here then?”
Roy: “No, just the mind. We can also communicate as long as our physical bodies are within a certain distance. I guess it’s similar to a game except we are only controlling soldiers. The soldiers follow my intentions so I don’t have to command them to do what I want them to do.”
Justin: “So it’s a bit better than a video game.”
Roy: “I guess so.”
Justin:”Then what’s this about me being a user.”
A map popped up in front. It seems that the lone soldier was up on that map. I explained how the system worked to Justin so he could understand it and why I was doing this and how he could take control but we had to put our bodies in a safe place if we wanted to take direct control.
Otherwise the soldiers could operate on their own but they would have a normative fighting style. Justin processed all of this together.
Justin: “So controlling the characters is kind of like playing a VR game since they don’t get tired. This is way better than exercising in real life.”
Roy: “Really?”
Justin: “You know why I like playing video games and fighting games but don’t really care to do martial arts or any of those things? It’s because I don’t like getting tired. It hurts to work out.”
I realized that’s also why I don’t like exercising as well. This kind of gives me the ability to circumvent everything doesn’t it? Not that I would have much talent in this world anyway.
Roy: “Well I tried killing some goblins but got overwhelmed. I killed twelve of them yesterday but there were over a hundred that came out.”
Justin: “Hmm… can I take control of a soldier?”
Roy: “Sure let’s summon them where the other soldier is, I’ll take control.”
We assumed control of two bodies and Justin began to move around. He seemed to enjoy himself.
Justin: “I feel like a fit person, not even getting tired from swinging this sword. Do you know the potential this can have? Where are the goblins?”
Roy: “Over this way.”
I put a body in place to hide as well so we can summon more bodies here if needed. If just these two bodies go and are dead we can always start back here and try to kill the goblins once more.
Justin:”Wait, before we go let’s do a bit of practice.”
Roy: “Practice?”
Justin: “Yeah, we need to learn how to comfortably control this. See I prefer the sword as a weapon and you prefer the spear. Since we don’t get tired let’s see how strong we are.”
Roy: “Makes sense I guess.”
We go over to some nearby trees and start hacking away. I start hitting the tree with the spear, making a few dents in it. This indicated that this body was definitely stronger than the body I was in control of. The height of this body from what I remember was a bit taller than my own, probably the height of an average man in this world.
Justin was busy slamming the sword into the tree many times and I could see the markings.
Justin: “We really don’t get tired here. I’m going to try out the other weapons.”
For the next hour Justin was testing out the movement of the soldier body with different weapons. He hit with different weapons and then finally settled on the sword. I copied his movements and also settled on the sword. I found that the more I moved around the easier it was to control.
Justin: “Roy, are you afraid to die in this body because of the limit?”
Roy:”Kind of.”
Justin: “I think that’s where your mistake is, you should treat this more like a game instead since you have a few lives and we can share lives. You said if you get enough points you can get more soldiers right? Then if we focus on killing goblins we can continue to get more soldiers.”
Roy: “If they all die I have to wait for them to recover.”
Justin: “Then just use all but your last one and then train the last one.”
Roy: “I guess that makes sense.”
Justin: “Anyway I’m used to controlling this body, so let’s go kill some goblins!”
The two of us used our armored bodies to walk down the path towards the cave where the goblins were. They were still outside and I saw the magic user.
Justin: “I’ll try fighting them up front and you go after the magic user.”
Roy: “Alright.”
Justin: “It’s alright to lose a few lives like this, we just need to get better at controlling and fighting.”
Roy: “Got it man.”
We descended on the goblins. Justin took out the first one and I moved towards the magic caster from behind. The agro was focused on Justin as he continued to move around making sure the goblins had trouble reaching him as I stabbed the sword through the magic caster from behind.
1.35 points!
The counter went up. There were a few arrow users that then turned towards me but dodging them wasn’t difficult when I thought about how they had to draw the string and could tell when they had to aim. The body not getting tired meant I didn’t have to think about anything but what’s in front of me.
Killing the goblins with the sword wasn’t that hard. One strike and their bodies fall apart, they could wield small weapons but they weren’t even strong enough to block a strike from an adult human.
Goblins run slow, they were also killed shortly, then I went around and helped Justin mop up the rest of the goblins near by. I had 11 points now. I purchased an extra life, since there were no enemies around I summoned another two to wait on stand by outside.
Justin: “We’re going to investigate their habits right?”
Roy: “Of course.”
